Default Motor is HOT

Just maidened my new stretch fbl flew around gently for 3 mins just to measure battery consumption and when it came down the motor was very hot, could not even touch it. I'm using stock parts, scorpion / yge / 14t pinion. My other protos can fly for 6 mins and never gets close to being this hot, are people cutting the canopy for ventilation? I feel bad taking a saw to such a nice canopy.

A bit odd, I have a probe in my motor showing max 140F when it lands, but it usually sits at about 115-120 in flight. It is hot, but I haven't burned my fingers on it or anything. I am using about the same setup as you as far as motor/stretch/YGE/14t goes. I keep mine up around 6 minutes.

Maybe belt tension is the be blamed? What about battery consumption?

300 mah/min. I ended up flying it yesterday about 10 or so times. Flew great, just had a hot motor. Battery temp was fine, pinion wasn't hot so I said it must be fine.
