Rebuild OS 50 or Get OS 55/YS 60
I have a TREX 600N with an RJX head on it. I've taken it inverted but still working inverted hovering so my skill level is only slightly above beginner.
I currently have an OS 50 in it but it needs to be rebuilt. So I'm looking at around $100 in parts. My question is if maybe I should go ahead and put that money into a different motor like the OS 55 (would just go Hyper, not DRS) or a YS 60? |

If you are going to buy new, then go for the YS 60SR with the Hatori SAB-1 pipe.
There is no replacement for displacement. And this combination has more torque than the OS motors. Short of doing a "Big Block" conversion on the 600N (to fit a .91 motor), this is the biggest most powerful motor that is a drop-in fit to the stock 600N. |

I would rebuild the 50. If you are hovering and going inverted the 50 is just fine and it drinks less. The 50 will not hold you back for a long time. I know a few people that smack theirs around pretty good.
The 55 and above motors definitely have more power, but drink more and cost more. |

The 50 will have plenty of power to keep you busy for a long time.I've been flying a ASP 52 and now have an evolution 52 both of which are just fine for my flying style.they both have slightly longer flight times than my OS 50 due to there smaller carb.

rcjapan.net (I haven't done the sums, but the rebuilt shouldn't cost $ 100 from them ?)

I don't think you will have any trouble with your current engine

I use all the power of my os55, but it took a while to get here. You can definitely learn a lot and fly the cap out of the os50. I do understand where you are at though. Personally I'll never own another 50, and I always tell people to try for a 55 or 56, but unless you were feeling like you were short on power already, I'd rebuild it. You'll probably find that it has more power now with a new ring anyway. Keep an eye out for a deal on a bigger engine, and you might get a few bucks for your rebuilt 50.
