No problem, I'll phone them tomorrow. I have bought a lot of stuff from them but in my experience they don't always answer emails.

Yeah would be nice if they get the new Archon.

Hmm, to me it looks like they are selling out and dropping a product
with a too small customer base. And I do understand them; they have
to make a profit to pay salaries and keep the bank account floating.

And they can't do that with 3 or 4 Beamers. Thank you Fast-lad for trying
and doing your futile best.

Fortunately you UK Beamers can buy parts on mail order from hobbyfly.com in Denmark.

Actually we were two in DK, who bought the last kits. And I almost did not, primarily
because I couldn't afford it and secondly, because it looks like the manufacturer
doesn't do anything about promotion. And it does annoy me, that such a nice machine
doesn't get its fair market share.

I may soon look into making a few custom parts for the Beam. Like bearing blocks
with axial bearings. And tail blocks to use other tail booms. But since I have hardly
used a lathe or mill for years, it may take some time. But I have a nice piece of 7075
aluminium in stock.

Cheers
Erik

Well I spoke to them and the guy I spoke to said they still intend to carry parts for the Avantgarde and maybe more kits. He said they'll probably get the Archon as well. So at least it doesn't sound like they're closing out all the Beam stuff.

Yeah the guy I spoke with kinda didn't know very much as he's not the decision maker but I would think if they were definitely closing out the Beam line he would know that. Sooooo, we'll see.

We do have another chance to big-up the Beam brand in the UK when the Archon comes out but it's going to really have to light the fires, so to speak, to compete with the Gaui or the Goblin. The pricing will be really important, if it's right in there at Gaui prices it should offer a viable alternative.

Thanks for the info. If they restock some of the rare canopies for the Avantgarde that are not available at Amain I will definitely buy some in the future.

My ½ price Beam plus the three almost-give-away canopies
arrived safely, very nicely packed. What a bargain. I almost kick myself
for not buying another canopy or two.

It's a crying shame Hatz apparently doesn't care about the US and European markets.

No Bert Kammerer or Tareq Al-Saadi videos nor any kind of advertising.
Even their website is a complete joke. It's just a small store for the locals.

Problem is, you don't know how nice a heli it is, unless you try one.

So it's like a well kept secret, which is not a good idea for us.

Just sitting here, waiting on spring....

Cheers
Erik

Ha, ha, now there's less availability, people might start wanting them after hearing about the legendary mythical performance!

If the weather doesn't start improving pretty darn pronto I'll be taking myself and my Beam to somewhere I can actually fly it, maybe Arizona or Spain or somewhere. Then you'll be the only UK Beam flyer!

I'm waiting to see what's going to happen with the Archon, who will be selling it etc. With MA closing their doors recently I'm not sure what to make of the heli market as a whole.

Cool I will check it out. The only deterrent would be shipping, I am getting another 600 from Germany and the shipping is $150us.

The only draw back I have seen so far in the design is the thin main body, have seen quite a few ESCs on the side. Not that I am against that, but I see they have improved that somewhat on the Archon 500. I may just wait for that one.

I think someone spoke of it on this thread already, there isnt quite the demand for 600s as there was a few years ago. I know a lot of pilots, myself included, like to split their 12s and 14s packs to fly smaller helis, and 500s on 6s and 7s seem to be popular. I still like a 600 on a 6s pack, to me thats casual, relaxing flight, a break from my big boys!

I wouldn't consider it a drawback. I'm not sure exactly what the reasoning is for the way it's designed but it does end up being very rigid and lightweight. I think some ESC could be fitted in between the frames at the back but I chose to put mine on the side.

Not to be paranoid or anything but I recently had an ESC on another heli burst into flames in flight and the only thing that saved the day was that it was mounted on the side and just held on with some foam tape and a velcro strap so I was able to pull it off before it did any real damage. So for me anyway I will continue to mount ESCs on the side where they get good airflow and are easy to rip off if the worst happens.

I really like the idea of being able to share packs between my 12s 600 helis and the Trex 500. I did have an Outrage 550 a couple years ago and was running the same 6s 5000mah packs I use in the bigger helis but I found the amp draws and hence the demands on the LiPos are so much lower in a 12s setup and you have bags of power if you want it.

Of course you can always do the ultra low headspeed thing by flying a 12s heli on a single 6s pack! I haven't tried it yet myself but have seen it done.

I really like the frame. It's very rigid - maybe because it's so narrow.

And the drivetrain has very few parts - I like the direct driven belted tail.
(I think there are way too many gears and hard-to-get-at bearings in a Torque Tube)

But I would like some main bearing blocks with an axial bearing also.
Although I may have to make them myself.

I use 6s3000mAh packs - one for the 500 and two for the Beam - simple.

But the best thing about it is the way it flies.

Cheers
Erik
