Options for a 450 Kit?
Hi all, Im new to the forum and looking to get into the 450 size electrics. I have flown micro coax's and the v911 for a while now but want to dive deeper into the hobby and the 450 size seems like a good place to start. I really want to get a kit that I have to build myself, both because for me the assembly is half the fun and i think it would help me understand better how all the parts work together. But Im finding that the trex 450 only seems to come in a bnf or rtf configuration that is completely assembled - im having trouble finding an align kit.
So the next best option seemed to be to start with a tarot 450 flybarless unassembled kit and a dx6i transmitter with phoenix sim combo. But even with the lowest end parts (turnigy battery, motor, esc, tarot zyx ffbl, etc) I would still spend a couple hundred more than an align dfc rtf with their t6 radio for $450. And the align seems to have higher quality parts like the 460mx motor, the servos and 3gx system etc. Just wondering if anyone has advice on what direction I should go, should i skip the build and just get the align rtf, spend more and go the tarot route, or do the genuine align kits exist and i just haven't found them yet? |

The kit's are out there. Have your hobby shop order one in for you.
The DX6i / Phoenix combo is a good next step, But you should have at a micro Collective pitch like Nano or MCPX BL before you fly the 450 so you have a chance to learn how to use the DX6i, and actually spend some time flying a collective pitch helicopter. Nano would be better indoors but BL is a very good 1st collective pitch trainer for out doors. Get yourself used to the speed these things cover ground. Learn hovering skills forward flight and turns first. NANO CPX SERVICE AND FLYING LINKS FOR NEWBIES https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=596574 The big one is learning how to use that DX6i. Study pitch and throttle curves, Dual Rates and Exponential. There are a lot of good 3GX videos out there. Study the flybarless unit your going to buy. Get to know it inside out and set it up soft or you will hate yourself. Heli Skills and Setup 101 - LOOK here first! https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692

Although I'm a big fan of Align, I read a lot about the Gaui X3 and what a tank it is. I'm not a huge fan of the 450 size, but if I were in the market for one, that's the one I would get right now.
It is a kit, but the only downside is that you have to pick out your own electronics. If your LHS stocks the Gaui line, get with them and I'm sure they can help you pick something reasonable. Also there is a Gaui X3 forum you can browse. Good luck! |

I'm a big fan of Imzzaudae's advice. I has worked well for me.
Buy the DX6i and a Nano CPx and the sim. $120 for the Nano, $130 for a sim (I like Phoenix, but that's all I've ever owned). The $250 you just spent on the nano and sim could easily be spent in a single bad crash for a 450. While you're working on your flying skills with the Nano, get your 450 kit and start building it, taking your time to do it right.
