Ha, why am I not surprised that it would be easy to beat, lol.

One thing I will say, that may not surprise you either, to do that for much longer would actually have been pretty tough. I was actually getting mentally tired by the end, as it doesn't easily balance by itself, as I guess you might know. Puts into perspective the concentration levels that must have been required for your record.

Cheers

Something nice happened today: the FAI declared that they received the preliminary record claim as it should, and even published it on their website www.fai.org.

If you click today on the button "Records" on the main page, you'll see this:

And clicking on the appropriate line (the fourth) will show this:

So far, so good.

Not sure if this would be doable but could possibly extend the flight time.

Have the batteries set up in the two layers in such a way that after the bottom layer is used up they could be remotely dropped to the ground. How you could do this i don’t know but would reduce the weight significantly enabling longer flight time on the top row of batteries in comparison to the bottom lot.

just a thought

Nice idea, but this is absolutely forbidden by the FAI regulations. Any part, no matter how small, that falls of the heli in flight will make the record attempt invalid. These guys thought about everything, there are dozens and dozens of pages of regulations.

Here in Wales, we are going for the record of the "Most time spent NOT flying during the flying season".

We've already got the "Most Rain" record.......so the other one is in the bag!

Back on topic, I'm looking forward to seeing the record ratified officially! Will it then appear in official publications? Guinness etc I assume!

Out of interest, would you ever try to beat your own record, or would you wait for a new challenger?

On 3 October it will be ratified as a national record in Belgium, Luke. Only after that, it can become an official world record (FAI regulation again). But that won't take very long.
The Guinness Book accepts all FAI records automatically, as they know very well that the FAI is very, very strict when evaluating record attempts. I think it's about the only kind of record that the Guinness Book accepts without further questions. At least, that's what they say themselves on their website.

I'm guessing for now that I won't try to beat my own record in short notice, perhaps if someone else would beat it, yes. We have a few ideas left to stretch flighttimes, given the past experiences, but they haven't proven themselves yet fully in the real world. Sssst....

We received news from the Belgian sports commission that they approved the record officially as a national record at their meeting that took place yesterday. This is the last step before the FAI can approve the record as a world record. Fingers crossed now. Might take a few more weeks before we get news from the FAI though.

Lol, that would be very nice of you Jerry, but better wait a few more weeks until we really have the world record. After all, I'm guessing there was no Belgian record before like this, so the title of national record holder was a bit too easy to obtain.
But I already make note of your promise anyway.

Yummmm, agave extract, my favorite!!!!!

Was up in Canada, working at the Ford plant with a guy from another supporting company, Steve.
It was my birthday so we went to a bar and started in on the tequila. I was making planes out of straws, Steve started in. Pretty soon the bartender made this thing, waved it in from of Steve's face and said, "Look, it's a sperm!"
I cracked up laughing so hard, looked at Steve and said, "Make a new friend, did you?"

Well, we surely need to test the rest of the EU as well, to see if the tax laws are applied fairly! I'm happy to do the UK part!

Gosh, so many ready-to-sacrify volunteers, all for the sake of science, of course. Don't know where to even begin the testing

The FAI received all the necessary paperwork by now, together with the official approval as a national record, and by consequence they changed the status of our record attempt from "preliminary claim received" to "under review" now. We hope to get some final news soon.

Well done Raf, another step nearer. Who'd have thought it would take so long. Someone might have broken the record before your name goes in the book. Still, even if they do, I guess theirs will take just as long to go through, so yours will still officially be the record for just as long. You're already the world record holders in my eyes, but I look forward to the day when the rest of the world recognises your feat.

Cheers

They do seem to take considerably long time about this, don't they? Probably don't have enough budget to hire more bureaucrats to process all the paperwork mandated by themselves
