Default Tail Wag on madien!

All,

I finally maidened my 300X. It is mostly stock except a frame stiffener and just going through and tightening everything and loctite. When I spool up the tail wags back and forth "like a dog" about 1 inch (25 mm) total. The tail tends to calm down when hovering, but when I give pitch imputs it wags. Is it an issue with tail gain? Or something else.

Thanks,

Casey

sounds like adjusting your tail gain should solve the problem.

Also make sure your servo pushrod isn't binding, had exact same symptom from what your describing.

I also had the tail wag ootb. I reduced gyro gain from 77% down to 60 or 65%, but then the tail would not hold in extreme torque situations.
So I read about someone who had significantly increased belt tension to avoid this issue and I tried that myself.
I now fly with 75% gyro gain and the tail holds rock solid without any wag.
Try increasign your belt tension - it could do the trick.

Another item to check is the gear mesh. sometimes if the main gear is not exactly round, it can happen that the main gear and the pinion bind at a certain point, which also can cause a tail wag.

It turns out to be a combination of the gear mesh, tail belt tension, and gyro gain. I used a piece of paper to set the mesh. I had to turn the gyro gain down to 70%. Now the tail holds great.
