Default Looking to Build an MA Heli Need Advice

Hey Gang,
Long story short, getting frustrated with Trex450 (and 450 size in general)....Gonna take a step back and go with a larger Bird (50 or 60 size) for stability...Have been bitten by the Min Air bug (quality, made in USA, etc) and am wondering if I should pull the trigger on a Furion 6 with flybar or FBL....I have no experience installing/programming FBL (only thing FBL I have is mCPX). Would FBL be better for relatively new pilot looking to do Sport flying FC3 type stuff?

Give me some ideas...Have no experience assembling other kits/speedcontollers other than Align Trex stuff...

Thanks!

For FBL Electronics, good popular products (of good quality) are Skookum, V-bar, Futaba or
AR7200BX
I see you're on DX8
I think Futaba you need a Futaba Tx to take advantage of its full potential.
Skookums (SK720 & SK540) & V-Bars both accept Spektrum Sats and act as receiver.
There is Beast X as well, but if you want to go with that you should get the all inclusive Spektrum AR7200BX (7 channel Rx and Beastx built-in.

All of these have great communities on here for support and assistance.

Good Luck

With some more research on this site, now I'm getting the hang of FBL....No gyro needed with it right?
Looks like radio set up might be easier, but I'll probably need a tool to check pitch as my old Thunder Tiger pitch gauge requires a flybar!
Looking at the Mini V bar system, and maybe the Beast X if I happen to pick up a Blade 300X and get used to that...
Definitely will be Furion 6 for full size Heli, prolly 12s set up so that I can use my Hyperion 6s 3300 pack from the Trex500...Will be FBL now for sure...
Thanks for the suggestions, and I'm gonna give the 450's a rest until I get much more proficient with a bigger bird...

Thanks again!

I believe that one of the problems will be increased servo wear as the cyclic attitude corrections/compensations come from the servos and not the flybars. And the controller has 3 gyros in it and at least three of accelerometers.

Flybars are a mechanical stabilizing system that was developed in the days where there were no electronics capable of doing the job that are insensitive to electronic noise. From my reading it seems that the top competitors still use flybars as they are smoother but smooth flying or not is a personal choice. Either way enjoy your heli.

Correction... Flybar units do indeed have 3 gyros, but not all have accelerometers.

Also, look at some of the competition videos from IRCHA last week and see if you can find any flybars.

The V-Bar software has tools built in to check pitch, so you won't need a pitch gauge. It's pretty neat.

Personally I'd go FBL with a VBar. I've flown a CGY750 and a BeastX but the VBar just flies nice out of the box. The pro software is useful but by no means essential. I'm still running th Express version on the Whiplash and haven't had any issues. The other bonus of the VBar is the huge amount of support. I run my Furion on 10S and the power is nuts, even with cheap Zippy packs. You want the packs to be no more than 1200g all up to get a good CoG.

Here you go, F6 with vBar.

This is 10s with 560 motor, 13 tooth pinion, Kontronic esc/governor.

Read all about it here: https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=243942

Mini VBar as it will fit in most 500 frames easily.
