Default DT700 CF

Hello freaks, I have decided to try out the DT700 CF airframe. There wasn't a lot of info out there on this heli, but the little I could find was all positive. I ordered the kit from onlyfinehelis.com

I went back and forth with my decision on weather or not to buy it, but I figured, for only $460.00 id give it a try. And at the very least I figured I could get a little more info on it out there. I will get my first glimpse in person of it when I get home this weekend. I intend to post several detailed pictures of it as well as my first impressions on quality and so forth. I will also post a quick overview video as well as a maiden flight video. I'm hoping that this heli will allow me to fearlessly progress my flying since replacement parts and for a really bad crash, a re-kit is super inexpensive.

I'm not sure how large the demand for info is on this helicopter but I do hope that this thread will help anybody who may be interested in it, or if it does turn out to be a good machine, give people a chance to get into 700 sized machines who might be holding back due to cost.

Anyway, I will update this thread as soon as I get my hands on her.

Setup:

So, I opened the box last night when I got home, and wow, I'm impressed. Nice beefy head, really unique frame design, the canopy had little to no flaws and the carbon seems to be on par with qualities of other more expensive models.

Had to do just a couple real minor mods, the plate where I am mounting my ikon had the screw head sticking out too much, so i had to use dremel to counter sink it better, and I had to lengthen one of the mounting bolt holes for that tray to get it to sit flush and square. The pinion had some wierd thick hard black stuff on it (maybe some kind of protective coating?) that I was worried could cause damage to my main gear so I used the wire wheel on the dremel and some mothers polish finished with an alcohol bath and it cleaned up nicely.

I am going to have to cut a hole in the top of my canopy due to the height of my kde motor, but thats no biggy. Had to stop build for now hopefully finishing up tonight.

Everything was packed nicely with lots of foam and bubble wrap

It came mostly pre assembled. Just had to put on landing gear, main gear and head assembly, put together the tail and install my electronics.

Happy with the quality and size of the head

Servo install was a breeze!
Mounting holes on the side of the edge 160 perfectly line up with slots im mounting plate I used 4 m2.5 10mm bolts and 4 m2.5 nuts to mount esc
Motor mounting and pinion install was simple and gear mesh was easy to obtain. Didn't even need to cut motor shaft (long shaft)

2.5 hours since turning first wrench

First canopy fitting (need to cut hole for motor)

Will update as soon as I am able to continue my build. I'm very satisfied so far.

Make sure that there is a flat spot on the tail output shaft for the set screw.

I know the latest kits we put out have them, but you need to check yours to be sure. I had one customer that didn't have a flat spot and the set screw didn't hold very well.

I wait for videos. This airframe looks interesting. I like narrow frame. It helps to keep low weight because metal bearings mounts are smaller and lightrer. Please let us know final weight without lipos.

You didn't disassemble the major assemblies and reassemble them using the right loctite, grease, etc? Your faith in Taiwan craftsmanship is stronger than mine.

I did redo the whole tail assembly, and I checked several of the bolts on the air frame, loctite was done well at factory. And I can see that bearings are greased.

Maiden flight this morning, had a minor issue due to me not adjusting the front tail gear mesh, no crash or anything though, I got it home and adjusted it, no more issue.

First flight impressions, this heli is quiet! And from what I can tell is going to tune rather easily, I did have time to do a little tuning on the head, but so far I am pleased. I am excited to get more flights on it at my normal fliying field where I have room to open her up but I can say I am looking forward to a bright future with this heli.

Finishing the build:
So far the only want I have for this heli is more optiins for running wires, but that's not such a big deal, I'm just normally a wiring nut. The setup was easy, and only took me about 20 minutes to get a nice level swash with all my pitches set.

I will post video next time I get out and fly.
