HH v.s. Rate Mode - Setup??
For either FB or FBL helis, it seems the preferred "normal" flying mode is HH, and that's how I have mine setup, and they all work properly.
Question is this "set tail for minimum drift in hover using Rate mode, by adjusting servo position on boom (or tail drive link length)" I understand this is necessary to properly setup FBL controllers, also, and what I've found out is that I have freakin' HUGE hole in my knowledge....I don't know how to properly setup gyro gain in Rate mode, so that I can do this manual drift offsetting thingy. Anyone gracious enough to help me out? (after you quit laughing and wipe the Coke off the screen that you just blew out) Oh. This is also not *NOT* a troll message, guys. |

Hello.
The best thing would be watch Gyro 101 and 102 bellow. https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=41692 Study REVO MIXING If you want to learn how to set up your transmitter in order to fly in RATE mode using REVO mixing to control the tail. Basically with a rate mode gyro you set it up plus 2 or 3 deg pitch servo at 90. Then lift the helicopter. The tail should not drift until you begin to climb. When you add climb power the nose will drift. You will have an up Revo mix and a down Revo mix. Lift and climb note the nose wants to rotate. Land and adjust the up Revo mix until the nose holds as you climb! Then you do the same descending. As you decrease power the nose will tend to drift the other way. You adjust the down Revo mix until the nose holds. Note: Flying in rate mode the helicopter will weather vein! You will have to be careful backing up as the tail will not hold as it does a in heading hold mode. You will find that the helicopter weather veins in bank turns as well so you don't have to push the tail around so hard. This all makes you pay a little more attention and fly the tail as well as the rest of the helicopter but is a nice change if your up to it, Watch the cross winds things can get tricky! On smaller helicopters like 450s it's best to set the gyro gain high enough so the gyro is in Heading hold mode and the switch is in the right position 90 the servo and slip it back far enough that there is 2 or 3 deg of pitch on the tail rotor blades. Adjust the gain as high as you can without any wagging and fly in heading hold mode! 550 and 600 size or larger nitro Rate and REVO work well. Hope this helps you. Ron
