Anyone wanted a bigger tail ratio ?
I've been thinking about this, for the low headspeed guys, wouldn't you like a slightly smaller pulley on the tail, to get a ratio at 4.5-5, sure the mini prôtos tail works well, but the low ratio of 4.29 makes it struggle a bit at lower than 2800rpm.
It would probably be a pretty simple mod, as you simply need a smaller tail pulley (stock is 28t), a 25t (4.8) would be a great upgrade for tail performance at lower headspeeds.

Anyone wanted a bigger tail ratio ?
I've flown at 2100 and the tail has been fine for me.
I've found the stock tail blades aren't the greatest. I prefer KBDD for plastic, and Radix for carbon ($15 a pair). I did have some occasional kick at low HS, but I'm okay going easy on it. At low HS, I'm already going easy on it, so it works for me.

Yeah i'm running Radix carbon's, a bit expensive but have been worth it, they still work fine at 2800rpm and they are a bit chipped on the edges from landing and taking off in dirt.
I don't really have any problems with the tail at 2800rpm (well some really small kicks when I really mash the collective, but that's fine really), but it would be pretty simple to do if you have access to the right tools, so why not. And for a stretch setup overall you'd want a slighter higher ratio since you won't be going as high in rpm's.

I fly with 325s and radix cf's and 2500 rpm and the tail is great.

My stretch Mini's tail is flawless for me at 2300 rpm with kbdd extreme 61mm tail blades, RJX Vector 360 mains, and a ds95i. I do have the lynx metal tail pitch lever too. But mine is very light too so maybe that's the reason it holds.

There's guy named Gary Wright who is a team pilot for Thunder Tiger helis. He sets up his helis for low headspeed flight. He installed a smaller tail rotor pulley on his 550-sized machine when he stretched it to 600mm. I believe he also increased the tail rotor blade size slightly.
Do you think the 360mm RJX Vector blades are better for low headspeeds than the stock MSH 350s? |

Aryemis,
I'm relatively new at this and I do not know exactly what "pop" means. I suppose it means that the heli responds quickly to pitch changes? I like the idea of being more floaty. Thanks, Paul |

Pop means you get more collective authority, so it will give you the impression of using more pitch.

Also note that blade lengths are not always measured the same way.
Some 350s may be the same length as others 360s. The Aligns are about the longest. Try a few and feel the differences and see what you like. |

I would be greate to have smaller tail pulley for 360mm blades.
I have been flying stretched to 600mm blades gaui X5 and what I have learned is that bigger tail ratio gives better result than longer tail blades.
