Default 18 MZ Update No working

Hi Folks

I was wonder if any can help. I have a 18 MZ and have tried three different SD cards. Two were 4 GB and one a 16 GB. When I insert the cards and push the switch to Update mode and turn the radio on i just get the update screen. I push the dial and turn it like the instructions state. But nothing happens. I did it once before and had not issue updating the radio.

What am I doing wrong.

Default update 18mz

Hi,

Can I know how do I format the SD card? Is it using the PC or the 18MZ?

Use the radio and not the PC. I believe Futaba does not use FAT or FAT32 as they don't want to pay the royalty to Microsoft. You need to format with the Tx.

PC will not format the card correctly and it won’t work. You must use the transmitter format option.

Default 18 MZ Update No working

Thanks guys!

I just got the reply from Futaba to confirm too.

The current update includes all previous updates in it.

UPDATING THE 18MZ

The 18MZ uses a special file system that is not compatible with
Windows file system, so you are required to convert from Windows file
first then write to the SD card. The SD card must be formatted by the
18MZ first. The zip file contains both file converter and updating
files.

1. Plug your SD reader/writer into your PC, but do not insert your SD
card yet. The SD card must be formatted in your 18MZ first.

2. Insert your SD card into your transmitter, power it on. It will say
“This card has not been initialized” with a Cancel or Format below
this sentence; dial over to “Format” and press. It will check again
by asking if you are “Sure?” dial over to Okay and press. Formatting
may take a few minutes depending on the size of card used. Once the
transmitter is done formatting your card, it will say Format Completed,
press the box that is highlighted “OK”.

3. Power off your transmitter, remove the card and insert it into your
card reader.

4. Now, you will want to download onto your PC’s desktop the zipped
folder with the latest update on it. You will want to open this folder
either with WinZip or as a Compressed file. Once you have this open, you
will want to open the other zip folder. You will want to drag the
UPDATE folder to your SD card.

5. You can now remove the card from your SD reader/writer and insert it
into your 18MZ. With the power off, move the update switch up as shown
on page 163 of your manual. Now power on your transmitter and you will
see “T18MZ PROGRAM UPDATE” You will need to press the dial, and the
program will start updating. Once it is completed, power off the
transmitter, move the update switch back down and remove your card.

FYI, I tried 1 Gb and 8 Gb SD card and both can't work until I used a 2 Gb SD card.
