Nitro DFs are less popular than they used to be. Turbines are replaced them for heavier models. EDF (electric) has become much more popular and there are quite a few nice EDF RTFs and ARFs available. e-Flite has an EDF called the "Habu" that looks pretty durable and is reported to fly quite well...

Your prettyh much not going to find anything newexcept for second hand stuff. Bvm dumped all of there nitro stuff for edf, except for servicing what's already around. I believe OS is still making their motor. But no one is making dedicated n itro kits. The only places that do, are yellow aircraft, century jet models and jet hangar hobbies. You'd be better off going turbine or edf. There are a few turbines on the market that are inexpensive and good qualtiy.

Turbines banned at my local field. I saw there is a big spread in MA this month on EDF's, so I'll look at that. Thanks for the info. Shows how long I've been out of the hobby!

Yea i was out of the hobby for a little under 4 years and was amazed by what i saw when i came back.

the last OS 91 DF w/ a dynamax fan setup i bought, i paid right at $1400 for the motor/pipe/fan and fuel tanks. You can get a EDF setup that has more thrust and better reliability for slightly more $$.

the Tamjets, dyn-e-max, E-turbax and the BVM EVF are the most popular EDF's in the 5" fan category. Most all of them use a Neu motor and require atleast a 30-40C battery pack.

When I think EDF, I think hand launched 70mm fans, which I know guys enjoy. I just want something a bit more "substantial" than a 26oz foam dart.

Go to. Www.tamjets.com

He offers a lot of the edf products that are large 5" fans producing 14lbs of thrust and more.

I've got a Maxi-Flo fan (Same as the Kress units of the 1980s) and a NIB K&B .46 DF engine.. Always wanted to drop it in an F-86 but never got around to it...

The "Habu" appears to be a decent choice for someone looking to get in to the hobby. It's quite "jet like" and made from "Indestructium" foam (that's right before "Unobtanium" on the Period Table of the Elements, BTW).

There are quite a few scale jets in a similar size range, F16s, 15s, A-10s, A7s, Mig-15s, F-86s, even an Me-262.

But if your budget is bigger and you don't mind the inevitable costs of a crash, there are lots and lots of much larger EDFs. Just go grab yourself a copy of Model Aviation and Model Airplane News and check the Ads for ideas. You can spend $1000s if you are so inclined!

http://www.xtremepowersystems.net/

Scroll down on that page. They are flying some converted .91 Nitro DFs F-15s as EDF, and their F-14 is simply amazing.

Look at the BVM ElectroStreak. Awesome flying high end EDF. They are now running up to 16S systems at some 6 KW ( almost 10 HP).

EDFs these days range from 30mm micro fans up to 6 inch fans with more power than nitro DFs ever even dreamed of.

DF is one area where electric has virtually totally replaced nitro.
