It's amazing how many people are looking for the videos on RR.

Everyday I stumble across two or three posts in all areas regarding these. We need to let them know where to find them.

I know but every time somone posts where they are Mark deletes it!
All I can suggest is PM'ing the person that asks as he doesnt delete PMs.
That is what I have been doing when I jump over there to have a look see but that is like once a day and I miss the deleted posts.

I'm sitting here on the edge of my recliner, watchin' baseball out of one eye and Finless Bob's SE build videos out of the other, sippin' a frosty beverage and building this SE.

Got a question:

I'm a big fan of grommets, eyelets and mounting plates on my Raptor. However, it looks like the Rex don't need no stinkin' grommets nor eyelets for these Airtronics 94091's. Correct?

PS -- It's a lot easier to install these servos with the upper frameset split. Since I was greasing bearings and re-loctiting screws anyway I'm putting the servos in before reassembly.

What say you about the grommets and eyelets, O' Ye of the Premium Build?

PPS -- Would it be better for HF members if questions like this were posted in the TRex forum?

Yep we dont use no stinking grommets.... BUT if you can use them and keep the servos from being able to move I would say go for it!

I just looked a pic of one of those on the AT web site.... I think your going to have to use the stinking grommets as the holes in the tabs are large! I suppose using a washer or a large headed screw would work...... Bottom line whatever you do you dont want them to be able to wiggle or move....

I put the plastic 'nuts' on upside down, on the servo side of the mount, and the round raised portion of the plastic nut centers on the larger servo hole nicely and still permits a little movement before tightening for a bias up and forward.

Would you prefer questions like this to be posted in the TRex Forum?

I have almost finished building my 450xl and have found your videos extremely helpful in confirming some things I already had a good idea on and some things I didn't have a clue with.
I have a qestion, what is the best way to secure the pinion onto the motor shaft. I originaly screwed on a 13T pinion, which seemed fine but then read that 11T would probably be better, so I removed the 13T and put on the 11T and because there is less metal, as the pinion is a smaller diameter, I stripped the thread out. I have now stripped out 2 pinions and trying to be really careful when I do this.
Do you have any recommendations on this. I have thought about getting a steel pinion or glueing it to the shaft. Should I grind a flat on the shaft?

Your opinion would be much appreciated.

I had exactly the same problem with the provided motorpinion in the HDX kit. Somehow the locking screw doesn't fit properly or the material of the pinion is weak and doesn't hold the force of the 450T motor. I had it coming off in flight! luckily I was hovering only 2 feet off the ground.

I ordered the 2.3mm Align pinion set ( nr. HZ020T) because i never had this problem with Align pinions. Also I think 11 T is better.

Thanks for the info.

I have the new 430L motor with the silver ends, which has a 3.17mm shaft and because of the larger hole there is less meat for the thread. Do you know if anyone does a 11T steel pinion.

I even thought about soldering the pinion to the shaft but the heat may damage the bearing or windings in the motor, so I passed on that idea.

I haven't finished building it yet but feel that this could be a problem, as you said, you have had yours come loose in flight.

I used a little red locktite to hold the pinion to the shaft, and blue locktite for the screw. You do not have to crank the grub screw down hard, just snug it and wait a few hours.
Removal will require a little heat, in the frames use a soldering iron, out of the frames you can use a torch.

I have another set of Align pinions on their way and I will get some red loctite from my local car spares store.

Hopefully I will be third time lucky. Gone through 2 pinions and it's not been in the air yet. :?

MrFixit, what pinions are you using? Align pinions? I have never had a problem with those stripping or coming loose. Maybe you just got a bad batch?
Anyway do as Wayne says on th next go around.

I'm using Align pinions, it's probably me being a bit too heavy handed but I will certainly try what Wayne has suggested when my new one arrives.

Ok, I thought you were talking about the HDX outrunner motor, sorry, didn't read your post properly......
I use the Align 430 on my other heli and use it with the Align 11T pinion. I never had a problem with Align pinions (yet) and you can just order that pinion anywhere they sell Align parts. It should hold allright, because the Align pinions (the smaller ones) have a bigger bottom end were the grub screw sits.
