Three flights continuing to tweak and enjoy. Chipped the crap out of the tail rotor blades (kdbb) but new MSH ones in the mail. Tried 3:40 instead of 4:00 on the timer to keep the batts above 20% capacity. Dropped the stunt mode throttle curve from 100% flat to 95%. Both seemed to help the batts. Thinking about buying a Gens Ace 2700 35C (i'm using the 2600 25C) as a fifth battery.

Crashed it.

That's the last thing you should have done!
I tried the mvvs motor, plenty of poke, need to drop pinions to lower hs. I also got numerous over heat warnings, looks like this motor is too much the yge 60.

Flipped her over and she just died. Odd because it was in IU but acted as though she wasn't.
Oh well, I'll order new blade grips and feathering shaft tonight and have her in the air mid week. Strange issue though.

I got rid of my Infinity alloy tail and put a stock tail block back on.
The smaller bearings on the Infinity have just been a pain, plus the small phillips head screws have been problematic to remove. I went through my whole heli and and it is smooth as silk again

I find the screws a bit small also.
I guess that's what happens when you forget to charge the pack Either LVC or brown out.

I have a rule, right before I plug the pack into fly, I stick on the EOS sentry which is always in my pocket to be 100% sure I have a full pack.
Yesty I had 4 heli's and 19 packs on the table at the field, not once did I make this mistake even with all the mess I had on the table.

I'm a new-ish Protos 500 owner and I'm curious: Why was it so much? I would think $40 for blades, $30 for canopy, leaving $80 for ? The little parts are not expensive. Oh - a battery?

Was doing some testing on the Protos this afternoon and for some odd reason the belt decided to break as I was flipping it inverted. I had enough headspeed to barely make it back upright before she hit the ground, but not quite enough for a good auto as the belt got wrapped in the blades, killing the headspeed quickly.
Cracked a plastic frame, broke a plastic servo holder (pushed the bearing through the plastic), belt spindle and main shaft, boom and belt. About $60 after using the spares I had on hand. Luckily canopy and blades came through unscathed.

That's an interesting crash. But the boom looks pretty good. Good luck with the repairs.

Isnt it tho!!! Boom was bent curved. Never seen that before! No kink. But the hole where the tail keys into, ripped open. About $300 with blades and canopy after shipping. But not getting a canopy yet. I have a few others and should be able to fix this one. Just couple cracks and one mounting hole ripped.
Parts ordered from MSH-Direct and rcflightstore

Amazing really. The tail looks like it caught the very last loop at the top of the chain link fence. A few inches up and you would've been OK.
Baseball fields just don't like flying I tell you. Just last week I flew my Protos at one and I nearly collided with a light post doing a lazy backwards circuit that went just a bit wider than I intended. I noticed the post at the last minute and bailed into a vertical climbout that nearly ended up into the lights at the top of the post. I was lucky though and brought the bird home in one piece.

What did you do with your PRÔTOS today?
Quote:
Plus all the other parts in the pic totally around $150 aud. Considering it was 150+ kph(confirmed via voltron) into the deck, it was very good.

Flew a few packs last night everything flew great. Decided to put a new 15t pinion on as the current one was pretty worn out.
Took to the local field today to give it a few quick flights, flying great for about 2 minutes when I go for a large high speed loop and mid climb, nose up about 60 feet I hear the motor cut, start, then go silent. By now I'm inverted with no power...........my butt immediately clenches. Figured Its gonna be best if inland on my skids so flip it around skids down and and try to let it fall and get some head speed up and try to auto it but not much luck! Since it was in a climb and not a ton of height just not enough head speed for a clean auto ( and I'm pretty noob at autos ) she hit pretty hard skids first and flipped onto the blades. Luckily almost 0 head speed and the damage looks minimal so far. Everything still lit and functioning when I did the WALK OF SHAME up to the heli. Sats lit and servos all functioning. When I went to give the motor throttle it just started chugging like a motor wire is broken or disconnected. Also noticed the tail slider is a bit notchy now, most likely bent something on impact. All in all doesn't look too bad, will head home now and do a tear down and see what else I can find. Blades and frame survived so that's all I was worried about. |
