Default Antennae on Futaba 7CHP

Hello Folks,

Quick question... I know it's best to pull the crystal from your TX when running it with a sim. Do you then still need the antennae to be pulled out?

I understand that if the TX is transmitting, the antenna needs to be extended to prevent damage. If the crystal is pulled there is no transmitting and therefore the antennae can stay closed?

As you know, the long antenna makes it a pain, in front of a computer in a room.

Thanks,
Gary

If its transmitting you only need one section extended to keep your rf section from overheating.

I pull the crystal and leave the antenna collapsed. I have been doing that for some time with no problems.

This brings up a good question though as to which method you use, “Pull the crystal” or “Leave it in”?

I believe pulling the crystal is pretty standard stuff. Now if the TX is not transmitting, why would one have to extend the antennae? That's what I am wondering.

I ended up buying a 6EXH TX for use with the sims. I didn't like yanking my crystal out of my 7C all the time, wear on the batteries and hardware, etc. This way I have a nice heli radio similar to my flight radio and won't have to risk damaging the 7C.

I pull my crystal because everybody on my block without cable can't watch tv, my family included. The neat thing is that if I point my antenna to an antenna the reception goes back to normal since little transmission goes straight out in line with tx antenna.

If two people have walky talkies they can actully find each other by walking perpendicular to the antennas when the strongest signal is found when moving the radio in different orientations.
