Ian, I went back to 2.1 and downloaded your setup and all is good on my 450Pro. Thanks much for your help.

A friend is wondering if you have 2.1 settings for a Trex 500?

Hey Buddy.

Ah that's great news, V2.1 is much better on the 3G than V3 which is a shame, but as long as we can revert back to V2.1 then we're all ok.

You're very welcome glad to be able to help.

For your friends Trex500 I would suggest my 550 3G settings, as these have been proven to work on the 500 and upwards size machine very well.
You may have to make small gain changes, but I think he will like the feel of them on this model.

Keep me posted on how you get on with both models running my settings.

I had no issues with my 3G on v3.0 rudder-wise when it was installed on my 600 and 700. It had jsenicka (from runryder) settings as basis and then edited it a bit. It wasn't as predictable as I'd like on the cyclics. Collective had an irritating delay to it, don't know why. The biggest improvement when I was tuning it on the 600 was installing FBL blades (I used Aligns)

I heard v2.1 was better on cyclics, but random tail kick was still there according to some.

Ian,

My 450 Pro is basically flying very nice, but every now and than it just pitches down in FFF, which is a bit spooky, I tied turning down the gains, but this was of no help. I am not running FBL blades, might this be the problem?
Thanks

Hey.

Yes, V2.1 is much better on the 3G. The tail is improved in V3, but at the expense of cyclic feel in flight which is the main area of an FBL system.

The tail kick is a strange one, I had the odd one, but could never find a real reason for it. I did however feel it happened more when the weather was hot, in cooler conditions it never seemed to happen.

Hey Buddy.

Brilliant, you're half way there then with a nicer flyign model.

The addition of some FBL main blades will help no end, they are a bit heavier than the stock D blades which suits FBL better. On the 450 I found it to be less tolerant to a lighter blade than larger machines and the addition of some Manics first, then ALign 3G's when released, helped smooth the FFF feel of the model. If you can pop some FBL blades on the model next, I'm sure you won't be dissappointed.

Ian, Thanks - 3G blades did the trick, much smoother and better control.

Hey Buddy.

Sorry for the delayed reply.

Great news, I knew there would be a mark improvement on flight performance on the 450 size machine with the addition of FBL blades. I experienced it myself, the model felt so much better with good blades on.

Cool, now you can go out an enjoy flying it :-) Have fun, any problems or questions just ask my friend.

I bought a second hand 3G hardware ver. 2.1 - just so I could mod it
(acid-free silicone in the sensor. I noticed the connector was factory
glued with epoxy). I paid $50 including postage for a nice-looking 3G 2.1.

I love to fix things - if they need it or not. After sending my (probably
slightly faulty) mini VBar to Germany yesterday, I put the 3G on my
500esp. And maidened it this evening just one battery's time, and then
it started to rain. But I did get to try it, hehe.

After reading all the 3G bashing, I had put on my crappy "3D" main blades and
exchanged the CF tail blades for the plastic ones. It would then be a cheap crash.

But it flew okay - no strange tendencies - the tail held fine - it just had
a wobble in the elevator axis - just like my mini VBar, ahem.

The tail held fine - nice pirouettes with okay stop. 25% GY AVCS in my
Futaba FX-20 (same as T8FG, just in a tray cabinet - european style).
HS just 2200 RPM.

Firmware 3.0 with values reset to factory standard. I guess there was something
I changed - a checkbox I guess. Not any slider.

Now, when weather permits, it's time to make it fly as well as possible.
Make an aluminium tray for the sensor, I guess. And put on my 425D 3G blades.

Cheers
Erik

Hmm, I still have that wobble/shake in the elevator axis.

Should I try to flash the 2.1 firmware?

Cheers
Erik

That ususally means your gain is too high.

Hey.

Could also be lock gains is the wobble is at specific times.

How's it mounted. My 500 went in nose first, total desruction, all new shafts, bearings, frame, servo gears, DFC head assy. and even a new motor shaft and bearings. It wobbled like crazy and couldn't fly it.
GP780 mounting, one pad, steel plate and then another pad and wobbles gone.
Without blades on the bench the servo horns danced and the swash tilted all over the place

if its of any value to anyone i have a trex 550 v1 now running 3g ver 3. i used coolice files and i find flies really well (to my level anyway mild acro inverted circuits no 3d) the tail never drifts on pitch pumps (was really badly behaved when it was new though ver 2 i think) and locks instantly when stopping a piro. one thing persists in all software versions is a faint "shimmy" of the tail like a shivering never seemed to affect flight until i installed the (upgrade addiction!) helical pinion and mod.8 tail drive as per 600 efl. Now apart from being almost silent by comparison with straight tooth gears the "shimmy" has all but gone. i had to increase the tx gyro gain a little as the tail rotor speed is a little slower (or so im told) and she still flies as well as before.

Hey buddy.

It's good to hear my settings files are working well for you on V3.
I think you really have to push V3 hard to feel the cyclic differences which I felt let it down over running V2.1.

. one thing i have done is to increase the roll and flip rates to 90 in the software. she rolls/flips much more in one plane now rather than an arc. dont know if this is what you mean but i know im no 3d expert. (i do 3d when i lose orientation/control!!) the helical gears i guess cut down on vibration which is why i presume the shimmies have vanished. love the noise she makes now much less whining on spool up can hear the blades better
