Default range check fail SD10G with a 6 channel fhss1 receiver

Range checking a trex 450 with a 6 channel fhss1 receiver and my SD10G transmitter and can only get 14 paces before servos start going haywire! Have sent the transmitter for the updated board about a year ago and it still does it. Called airtronics and the tech support told me the fhss1 receivers will usually range check poorly compared to the fhss3 receivers paired to a SD10G. Have a friend who also has the same transmitter with a fhss1 receiver and he also gets a poor range check but has had zero issues flying a 3d plane in normal power output. Should I ignore the poor performance in low power and just go with it? I plan on flying this heli with a scale fuse and plan on flying pretty far from me so this is my concern. Any input would be appreciated. Oh....forgot to mention that my models with the fhss3 receivers are bullet proof and range check amazingly, only reason I'm using the fhss1 receiver is because the analog servos on the rex don't like the super fast frame rate of the fhss3 receiver.

How are your antennas positioned? Are there any obstructions around the whiskers?

No they are outside the model perpendicular to each other. I have my fhss3 receivers set up the exact same way and they yield superb range checks. I spoke to someone at the field I fly at and he told me his sd10g when paired with the fhss1 receivers also yield poor range check distances in low power mode but has never had an issue in flight in over 4 years. I guess I will just fly and see. sorry for the late response and thanks for your response @ TMoore,

On a flat asphalt surface with the heli on the ground I typically get 90+ feet with FHSS-1.

Just bought a fhss1 6 channel blue mini full range receiver and got a great range check. I guess the problem lies with the 5 channel receiver? Thanks for the feedback. @TMoore.

In your original post you mentioned a 6 channel RX. Was it actually the 5 channel unit?
