Default Going 800...advice boys?

Hello Gents,

Going 800. Any advice on what is the best product out these days. Looks like align is running things in the 800 market but I could be wrong. Mild to heavy 3d flyer, like big air as well. Have every other size almost and looking to add an 800. Thoughts appreciated. Thanks

Well the main choices are Align 800, Logo Xxtreme 800, Goblin 770, or Protos 800.

Align is the most cost effective for sure and I have not been hearing much of anything bad about them.

I do love my Protos 800 but its quite a bit more expensive. P800 combo kit (no main or tail blades) w/ Brain, YGE 160, and 4530-500k motor is $1900. On ebay you can buy an 800 pro DFC super combo with Edge 160, 850mx, hv servos, and main and tail blades, for $1800.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.

+1

Love both of my 800 birds but the 800 Pro DFC is much more agile if your into 3d, the Trekker on the other hand is all about stability.

Sounds like the 800 pro would be ideal for your style of flying.

Thanks,
Budget would be $2k. Any of you guys have experience with the gob770? Reading reviews on it as well, but hard to get unbiased feedback from the gob forum...diehards and I don't blame them.

Funny you suggested the pro dfc, was looking closer at that bird as well. Any issues to address out of the box, recalls, etc?

There was a re-call for some batches of Castle Edge 160hv ESCs. - https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=599086
I dont fly 3d but some have suggested hard flyers change out the OWB housing to the KDE aftermarket. Many, invluding myself, have not had an issue.

Other than that, it has a very good electrical fitout and for the price, can't be beat imo.

I just converted my f3c 700 to an 800. I like the scale feeling and seeing how smooth and large it is. I also have a gimbal on it so that helps. The Align using it gently like I do has had no maintenance done really other than keeping grease in the head and the occasional flybar problems from transportation.

Love my 800 Trekker, Logo extreem, Protos 800 and my G4 stretched to 800, best value is Trekker, but they all fly differently, loving the Protos Max though, great at 1900 and the sound is awesome being all belt and no gears.
Sincerely think whichever you get you will be happy with not a bad apple there lol

Forgot, I had a Goblin 770 for about 3 months, take that how you want, it wasn't for me and to be honest, the fit and finish of the machined parts wasn't as good as it could have been

Good info. Was going gob but you know what, the rsv on those seems to fall further and further every day, like $1400 rtf??? Not going that route any more.

I'm a die hard goblin fan, but the goblin 770 seems to have wobble issues in a very wide range of rpm, like 1400 up to 1900 meaning you might be stuck with a pretty wild 3d setup. Something I would look into before I went with the goblin. I have seen the Mikado first hand, but to me it just flies to heavy.

I dun have any issue with my g770 at all, it flies nicely from low to high headspeed. If money is no concern then the ultimate is logo xxtreme. It flies really well and looks proportional like a real 800. All others looks like they had been stretched. You can also consider TT E820 or Alees Rush which can do 780 mains.

I don't know if it's a issue everyone encounters, but I know several have had issues so at least worth checking into if your considering a Goblin

Consider stretching 700. Drive train, all gears are exactly the same, DFC head is also the same. Stretch kit was $30 at RCpioneer.com. Even for $40 it is cheap to enter 800 realm ; )

Trekker is heavier but has more room for big lipos. My friend told me 800 tail boom is thicker than boom from Align stretch kit and does not fit 700. Keep it in mind.

Consider cheap YEP regulators 120A HV and bigger. They have active free wheel letting you to set low throttle curve if you want low RPM without overheating.

I really like $48 4.2kW motors for 700-800 produced by Gartt Model and rebranded to Turnigy available at HobbyKing. Even if you prefer more expensive one it is good idea to keep one as a spare part in case you destroy bearings in your Scorpion, KDE, Align or another fancy motor.

800 means lipos will cost you much so try to save some bucks choosing your setup : )

You'll like 800 whatever you choose.

Even though the Trex800 Pro is arguably a 'True 800', it does share many parts with the 700 which is good IMO. Especially since I see you have the 700 in your Hangar, 2easy. It certainly makes your spare parts inventory less expensive

It's nice being able to interchange battery packs too, as the quick load trays are the same also.

-edit- Have a look here https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...47#post5338247 at post #47 for a few comparison pics of my 700 and 800

and here for some more info- https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...=548222&page=8
