700L tail servo horn advice
Hi y'all. Is everybody using the 3 rd hole out on the star horn? And are you using the outer hole on the metal tail control horn? I think this is what the align manual recommends but I had to use a larger horn and the inner hole on the metal tail control horn to get full travel of the slider.
I maidened yesterday but had a slow wag I couldn't really get rid of. I'm thinking the larger servo horn I'm using could be the culprit.

Well, my advice may be bad since I was getting slow tail wags with the bar yesterday. I gave up after adjusting my tail gains way up.
I'm currently trying to figure it out with Vbar guys but I have heard that too large of a servo horn can cause slow wag. Ukhan, could you get full travel of the tail pitch slider with the recommended servo horns and hole positions?

Nice. One other thing i noticed is the ball links on the tail control rod are pretty tight. I'm going to pop them on and off a couple times so they are smoother.
I'll keep you posted on anything from Vbar.

15mm on the servo horn, using the inner hole on the tail control arm, should yield a well holding tail from a mechanics perspective.
Before you go chasing electronic settings, are you absolutely certain your tail assembly and linkages are as smooth as possible? I frequently see improperly assembled tails that are binding due to loctite seeping into areas it shouldn't be during assembly, or the pitch link "dog bones" are tight in the pitch slider yoke. I would ensure your tail mechanics are border line "sloppy" loose before digging much further into the electronics. |

I'll check the mechanics over again. The ball links are pretty tight so that could be an issue.

I used a seacraft 15 mm servo horn I found in my stash since the provided align servo horns were either too big or too small (the + shape or * shape). The + shape was too big with the outer hole and too small the next hole in. The * shape horn was too small even on the outer hole. I Set up the vbar rudder limits and was around 100 on nose left and 125 nose right. I loosened up the ball links which took awhile but now much smoother than they were.
I'll let her rip tomorrow or the next day and the report back here on how things went. Thanks for the help dchekas.

Okay I'm done with build but for some reason my carbon tail rod is not running directly under the boom. It seems to run a little too the right of the boom (when looking from behind tail in) Is that okay? In the manual the tail rod runs directly under the boom. It just looks a little weird

Perfectly normal.
You should set the rudder into the middle of its travel, and rotate the pushrod guide so that the pushrod is perfectly straight when looking from the back of the helicopter towards the frame. It will be clocked somewhere around 4-5 O'Clock. |
