Default BLS255 Brass Gear Stripped in Flight

157 flights on a BLS255 in an X50 nitro, no crashes/abuse.

Heli began acting erratically, inputs were delayed, I was lucky to land without a crash.

This is what I found on the aileron servo. The plastic gear that meshes with the stripped brass gear is OK, no obvious wear.

Has anyone seen anything similar? The brass gear shaft bosses look good, no elongation, the servo cannot be assembled without the gear shaft engaging both bosses correctly.

I got a free heli but am concerned about just replacing the gears and flying again.

Any ideas/suggestions as to the cause? Bad part?

Thanks,
Bob

I inspected the other two 255 cyclic servos and did not find any unusually worn gear teeth.

You can see how worn the teeth next to the three missing teeth are. Note the sharp edges on the adjacent worn teeth.

I don't get it. Even in a crash, that would not be the gear that breaks. Also, what's up with the wear?

This one was brand new from Futaba with 157 flights in the X50. Never crashed.

Weird.
