Post Please Help. Switching Yaw & Roll controls.

Hello All !
First I gotta say thank you, any googled question regarding rc heli flying yields a link to this forum, the information is endless and truly helpful.

I'm as green as it gets with 6ch heli flying. Got myself a Belt Cp V2, i know its an older heli but it was brand new and all stock, and after 3 days of tinkering and a lot of reading I think I have it all set up properly.
However, I'm coming off of 4ch helicopters (v911 and Syma f3) both of them have throttle (fixed pitch) and roll on the left stick and elevator and yaw on the right. I've become extremely used to this and when skidding around on my training gear naturally my hands move the controls in that fashion (no disasters yet thank god)

My question is, is it unheard of the switch these inputs on the receiver? Is it that easy? There has to be a good reason why the proper way has yaw and collective on the left together and people have been flying that way forever.

Any advice or help for a newbie is hugely appreciated !

Side question: is there any reason why my tail servo won't recenter to 90 degrees with the gyro on,? and when any tail input is given regardless of amount the servo will run in that direction until it hits its limit.

It's called mode 4. A lot of manufacturers specially on 4 channels use this Tx mode for their coax and entry level helis. Usually it's pre-assigned and you can not change it. Once you get into computerized radios then you can choose from 4 modes of stick operation.

On CCPM (six channels / collective pitch) helis; yaw and collective on left stick is known as mode 2 (preferred by 90% of flyers). As previously stated there are 4 stick modes to choose from. 1 -4

Mode 2 has throttle and yaw on left and elev. ail. on right.
Mode 4 has throttle and ail. on left and elev. and yaw on right.

Mode 1 and 3 switch the throttle to the right and differ from the yaw and aileron placement just like modes 2 and 4.

If your Tx has the option you can choose any of them. Be very careful when electronically changing the modes. On a regular mode 2 radio you don't want to change modes to throttle on the right and have the heli spool to mid stick once you hit ok, because your right stick would be at center.

Keep in mind where the throttle would be located after a mode change, making sure whichever stick controls throttle is at the lowest position.

Seems your gyro is on Heading Hold or AVCS on this mode the tail servo will stay at the last command input thus maintaining same pitch on tail blades and lock the heading. Once you switch to rate mode it should center. All gyro adjustments must be made in rate mode and flicked to HH for flying.

Hope this helps some

Everything Felix the cat posted on this is correct.

Just a caution sticking with a mode other than Mode 1 or Mode 2.

As you progress with flying, you will likely get into bigger and more expensive helis. In which case, at times you will want people to help you test or tune things. If you fly a non-standard mode (different to what most of your country flies), then you will have issues getting help.

I changed from Mode 4 (syma coax) to Mode 1 fixed pitch to Mode 2 fixed pitch, then CP. I am 45, so this change is not only possible for young people. I have since changed my Syma TX to Mode 2 .

For heli's, Mode 2 and Mode 3 make the most sense (elev / aile on the one stick). This way all the disc tilt is done by one stick (like the full size helis).

If you are planning on taking the hobby further, I encourage you to use Mode 2. More RC heli's are flown in this mode than any other. The support base and product base is larger.

Another vote for mode 2.
It will be a lot easier to get help and help others.
Most video tutorials I've seen also use mode 2.
