Default More Freebies: Align TREX 500 Flybar Lock

NOTE: THIS IS FOR Align TREX 500 owners ONLY. (Not the 450)
I made up some new TREX 500 locks based on my TREX 450 designs. It locks it like a rock. I know it works well on my 500 head so I'm looking for other opinions.

I'll give out a freebie to the first three people who PM me with their shipping name and address and tell me they have an Align TREX 500 head.

In return, simply post pictures of the lock on your head and let us know how it works.

Good luck!
Rick

I have one with that design for the 450 Sport and also for a V2 head. IMPECCABLE!

If you fly flybarred helis, these locks should be mandatory equipment before you buy any other tool!

Looks like the ESP head may be a bit different from my head. I have the plastic seesaw. Let me know if you have problems.

There was one reported problem of the lock being too short. As I get to the bottom of this, I will make a lock for each head and replace any lock that you are having a problem with for free. Sorry for the inconvenience.

OK, mine hasn't come yet, but skyfrog reports that the metal seesaw is made a bit differently than the plastic seesaw which would explain the difference. When mine comes in, I'll make a special lock for the ESP which uses the metal seesaw.

It appears that the plastic seesaw is thicker than the metal seesaw. In the PICS the plastic seesaw appears to be thick enough to be level with the seam of the head block and it looks like the thickness of the seesaw is consistent all the way across. In looking at a metal seasaw it is just a thick as the plastic one around the bearing but it is simply round in this section to accept the bearing then thins out on both sides.

Okay, so this flybar lock did not fit my friends 500 ESP with a metal seesaw. He gave it to me to try out if I promised to post my results.

The flybar lock works exactly as advertised. It's easy to install and can be quickly removed and re installed once you get used to how it fits. It centers nicely and locks the flybar with just enough force to keep it steady.

I've never used a flybar lock before and I must say that it did help me in setting up the proper head set up. I found that when eyeballing the bar I was a little bit off when trying to hold it even. Keep in mind that the lock must be removed when you need to make changes to some of the links. This is not a big deal since this lock is so easy to remove and install.

Over all I think this is well worth the money and would buy one for my other birds.

Oh yeah, the design is simple, straightforward and the lock is small and lightweight. Easy to store. A definite plus.

Great job.

Here are some pics.

Nice writeup and pictures. Thanks much!

Glad it worked out for your bird. When my metal flybar comes, I'll make a 500E version that will work for all the ESPs out there with metal flybars. Should be this weekend.

Hey Rick, here's another idea for you bud. For those of us with flybarless helis, it would be so great to have a temporary device we could screw onto the main block that could then be used to set the pitch. I'm currently using a bubble level and can't tell you how many times I've dropped that stupid thing while trying to set zero pitch!
