Yes, been testing it up one side and down the other for the past month!

With the blades removed, when I spool up the servo arms move up and down like normal when I give positive/negative collective. Once I put the blades on though, it's like they're "stuck" at 0 pitch/midstick and don't want to move. So I thought the head was binding or something, but it's smooth! So I thought the servos were too weak and underpowered, but the align ds610 replacements do the exact same thing!

RX is OrangeRX 6ch that worked just fine on my old 450 Pro

That's exactly what I'm doing right as I type this - going NoBar (servos directly to RX), going to try to keep the robird on the tail though

I haven't audio tach'd it yet, just did a GovStore with the YEP120hv. Tried with 70%, 80%, 90%, 100% all have this issue.

And no I'm not using a V, that would defeat the purpose of a gov....

Just checking. Trying to chase down all the possibilitys.

You sure your grips aren't binding with axial force? You said it works fine with no blades, but binds ( or acts like binding) when the blades are attached.

That's what I'm going to find out tonight when I fly it with the cyclics directly connected to the OrangeRX

Tired of scratching my head and wondering what the problem is... if it works perfectly like this then it's the Robird. If it has the same tendency, it's most likely the head/swashdrivers/swash. Agree ?

Well, if it works fine bypassing the Robird then its a bad unit. But, if it doesn't I'd look at the bearing arrangement in the grips. Almost sounds like some bearings may be turned around?..dunno

LoL, thanks man.

Got the swash moving perfectly with straight RX, but having trouble getting the Robird to act as a tail gyro...

I wonder if the rx is allowing the Robird proper voltage? I have the same Orange rx on mine with no issues, but anything is possible. Your running a bec @ 6v and you have pulled the red wire from the esc plug...if that's all good it has to be in the unit.

wait... no? pulled the red wire from the ESC plug ?

I figure it didn't matter since the 120hv doesn't have a built-in BEC

so, can't get the Robird to work as a tail gyro only (even though I saw a post from their rep saying it was possible) - going to attempt using a Blade450 3D tail gyro as a temp test

Are you using a full RX or Sat? If you are using a full RX, just run the cyclic servos to the RX not the Robird. Set it up as a CCPM heli in the radio and bam! The Robird will be trying to do the FBL thing, but with no servos hooked up to it nothing happens! (At least that is my theory)

Since the tail servo power is isolated, you would need to run a power and ground wire to power the Robird, I imagine any of the unused inputs would be fine.

With a Sat I don't see it working. Since they did not design it to be only a tail servo, it would make no sense to put an option in the firmware for it to not do the FBL thing.

I don't have a clue on just using it for the tail. You'd have to ask Scott on that one.

You bought it used? If so maybe chalk it up to a bad part and pick you up a brand new one (warrantied). It really is a sweet unit, you'd love it.

Yes that's exactly what I did. Created a new model in my DX6i called "550NOBAR" , set it to swash mixing / ccpm, and had it working perfectly - but the tail part of the Robird didn't function anymore. I assumed it would be powered through the connection from the OrangeRX RUDDER channel to the Robird RUDDER input. I thought that maybe since I had removed power from the other side of the Robird (main side) that the Tail Gain signal wire didn't have a ground to compare against, so I even ran a BEC Pro output up to power the main side of the G31, still didn't work.

So I just slapped on an old Blade450 3D gyro on the AntiRotation bracket... looks kinda funny with a tail gyro and FBL gyro now

I tried a test hover in my living room, I really can't tell but initial impressions are that it has the same problem. Which would mean the head is binding up somewhere with blades installed. I'm actually hoping this is the issue as it means that the Robird was fine all along.

Will really have to take it outside and test at full idle-up to be sure... but it's like 38 degrees out there right now!

Yep, did that, they feel smooth to me. I'm really stumped.

Unless the helicopter is fine and I'm just expecting it to fly differently... I'm coming from a 450, never flown a big bird before but the collective just feels wrong. Like someone dialed in +75% expo around center or something. On my 450 a small movement on the collective stick will cause *something* to happen. On this 550 during a hover, a small movement on the collective stick causes *nothing* to happen. Only the extreme top or bottom causes a change in hovering height. very strange indeed.

I feel I must apologize though for going way offtopic in this G31 Robird thread!
