Thumbs up Under Current: FPV Quadcopter Crashes in River

Hi All,
Well I managed to sink the Quadcopter again in the pursuit of the perfect shot lol. This day was one of those days where nothing was going right, I had already hit about 8 objects during my flight due to many factors, going too fast, not knowing the area, bad light but it all came to an end after hitting the water.

Not much damage was caused during the crash, Only 2x props were damaged and after drying out the Quad I found one of the ESC's had given up, luckily that seems to be the only damaged caused.

Default FPV Quadcopter Merrivale Quarry 2

Hi All,

Here is a revisit to a location I flew when I first started to fly quadcopters back in August 2012. Its a disused quarry on Dartmoor, the stone from this quarry made the Falklands War Memorial at Port Stanley on the Falkland islands.

Video and radio signal stayed constant while playing around this site which was a surprise due to all the metal work and walls. If I ever revisit this site then I will be increasing my speed for some great action.

I got the opportunity to film a high school robotics competition this weekend. It was extremely windy. By far the most wind I have flown any multirotor in. That limited what I was willing to send my quad to do, but I am happy with the results.

Edit: I'll post the video soon once we are fully done editing.

Just recently got into flying multirotors and usually record the flights on the gopro. Here's a couple of vids from the first decent ones.

Default FPV Spanky Maiden

Hi All,

These are the maiden flights of my new FPV frame, SpankyJAB.

I had already made 3 different designs of my own 240mm quadcopter but I just could not get the weight down enough to the point of excellent performance.

The video begins with footage from my first ever FPV flight of the Spanky, I did a quick VLOS test and all seemed AOK and the frame seems very stable. I have not done any tuning of PID's or balanced the props at all as I was just too excited about having a fly.

Dartmoor was very windy that day, I found the quad loved going with the wind (down hill) but because it is so light it had troubles flying straight into the wind unless I was at full tilt. After about 5 minutes of flying on the open moor I got bored with no objects around to buzz, so off to my local testing ground to play with the tree's.

Thumbs up FPV Spanky flying circles round a DJI Phantom

Hi All,

Here is the first flight I have done using the Spanky around another quad, it was a beautiful day for flying apart from the wind but that didn't stop the fun. Its quite clear to see what footage was from our GoPro's compared to the Mobius shots but in its defence I had not balanced the props and had been mowing ferns with them on some speed passes which has produced a lot of jello effect.

I am joined by my friend who has a DJI Phantom with a Zenmuse 2D gimbal fitted with a GoPro Hero3+ Blk, he is flying LOS while I am having fun around him FPV style.

Default FPV Spanky Fishlake Stream

Hi All,
This is what close proximity flying with mini quads is all about for me. You can have so much fun in such a small area and explorer places you might not even walk.

This stream was once used to power large waterwheels for Tavistock Bedford Foundry back in 1840's.

JAB1a, looks good. Love my mini quad too. Yours seems tuned really well, what controller are you running?

Cheers Jon, I am using the Acro Naze32 with latest Baseflight firmware on stock PID's. Its an excellent FC. On my bigger quad (550ish) I am using a full Naze32 with the latest Cleanflight firmware which is also very good.

Hi All,

Here is a quick flight around the parade ground of Plympton Castle near Plymouth, Devon. I could not fly near the castle as there were too many people around. Its hard to find things to do in an open space but finding the path kept me well entertained and I enjoyed it so much I thought I would share.

No real test of skills or scary bits, just plain good fun

Default FPV Close Proximity Cottage Playground

Hi All,
Here is the warm up video for some of the most fun I have had FPV, its very rare I get to spend too long at any one location so its hard to learn the area to get some nice routes.

The flight is the first one in that location on the day and I'm just getting warmed up after a long drive there, having a comfy seat and some shade was a very nice but rare treat. The garden has some excellent different area's. The 5.8Ghz video did very well behind all the hedges and trees and the FrSKY didn't play up once the whole time, I had my failsafe set to zero throttle just in case.

Default FPV Spanky Cottage Playground Full

Hi All,

Here's the harsh cuts of some of the flights I did around the beautiful Cornish garden recently. Warning there is some close proximity flying to myself and spotter (not trying to feed the trolls here) that I suggest no one else do as it was very risky but we both accepted full responsibility for anything going wrong. These flights were done on private property with the permission of the land owners, no one had access during my flights.

Setup:
ZMR 1804 2400Kv motors
12Amp Afro ESC's
Acro Naze32
FrSKY Taranis with X8R
Fartshark Attitude SD's with vTx & vRx
Skew Planar antenna (Gav's)
RealFPV Spanky FPV frame
Nano-Tech 1400mAh 3s Lipo
RCTimer carbon 5x3 props
