Default Kontronik 120hv Jive BEC

Is the bec sufficient to run the align 610 cyclic servos on the 700e fbl? Do I have to use a back up battery and have to up the voltage from 5v?
I am currently using a gryphon regulator and 3600 2s lipo for receiver power but wanting to eliminate all this for a cleaner set up. Using vbar for the fbl unit too.

Cheers

Jeremy

The bec with a slave cable runs everything just fine. You can use a buffer pack for peace of mind.

I'm running my 700E electronics, including vbar, off the Jive 120 BEC without a buffer pack. Been doing that on various helis for years without issue. An 800mAh NiMH buffer pack would allow you to auto your heli under control in the event of a BEC or pack failure. A few people do run them. I am considering that myself.

PS: default voltage off the Jive's BEC is 5.7V.

5.6 V is default. Not that .1V makes any differernce.

I use the one that came with one of my Spektrum radios:
http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products...ProdID=SPM9520
I have it on a switch for convenience, but most of the time I forget to switch it on.

Cheapbatterypacks.com
Make your own
4 Cell NiMh
AAA 800-1000 Cells, Not Eneloop for this application
I choose square pack, as it fits on the side of RX Mount
JR/Futaba RX Plug with 20 ga wire(I think, not 100% on ga)

THen just get a HD JR Switch between the RX/Vbar and pack,
1. Switch on before plugging in Lipo to let RX/VBar power up

Now you can power up electronics with buffer pack for testing.
Once in a while Cycle the pack.
No need to charge as Jive BEC does that for you

+1 on the switch. I love having the switch there for testing electronics safely at home.

In_to_the_Mystic_2003 - I appreciate the detailed response! Some questions:

I read somewhere that a 800mah AAA pack has significantly higher internal resistance than a 2000mah AA pack. Any truth to this?

Any particular reason for this? It would be nice to use a low discharge battery.

What is the consequence of doing it the other way round? Not trying to be smart - just curious.

Is the following switch OK for this purpose?:http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ging-Connector

https://www.helifreak.com/archive/in.../t-298550.html

AA is better than AAA as they can handle the amps better.

Basically it's weight vs capacity. I have tried both the (4) AAA Eneloops, and (4) 2/3A Elite. The AAA Eneloops are the lightest, but the 2/3A handle the amps better.

Better to have the electronics engaged before powering up the Jive so Rx/Vbar is sending a low Throttle signal. Also what Kontronk recommends.

Not sure about IR on AA vs AAA.

Correct on wiring, Must go into a servo port on Vbar, except RX2

It outputs voltage which is all you need to charge

Ok... I'm thinking of giving this a go and dropping my reg. Question on my mind, how would you know that the Jive BEC has failed and you need to land quickly on your second backup battery pack..??? Would you have any idea..???? If not, on startup, how would you know if your Jive BEC has failed..???? Maybe we need one of those little battery monitors on the secondary battery pack..????

Intersted in some thoughts and comments here. I like the idea...

The Jive BEC is pretty much bullet proof. Jives indicate a number of different status conditions through a sequence of repeating flashes of a small LED. The buffer pack is intended more as a backup incase the ESC fails or becomes disconnected from the main flight pack. I'm not sure that I've heard a single case where just the BEC has failed.
