I took a few photos of my 500SE under construction. It looks so clean and simple without the electronics. Maybe I should leave it that way... nah.

Scorpion 4035 - 500kv
Can't touch it for more than 3 seconds after a 5 minute, 2180rpm flight. It has been hot out everytime i've flown it though... First flights were at 2000 rpm, temperature was way lower then.

Sounds like gearing, or to much binding. What blades are you using ?

Oil those motor bearings every 6 flights.
Is the pinion getting hot? If so maybe the gear mesh is too tight.

There is just a tiny amount of slop between the main gear and the pinion. I'll try loosening a bit more thanks.
Ok back on topic don't mean to hijack the thread

If you have a tiny bit of movement between main gear and pinion that is ok.
At the high point of the gear you should have pretty much zero slop.
Next time you fly see if the pinion is getting hot. In 90F and above weather I can't touch my scorpion for over a couple of seconds.

I'm pretty sure the mesh isn't bad.. The manual said to have NO slop between gear and pinion but i found that strange. I've made sure to have a tiny bit of slop.
It was around 25 degrees celsius over the past days.. I noticed a considerable temperature increase going from 2080 to 2180 headspeed though. At 2080 it wasn't nearly as hot.

Do you guys think running a metal head on 690's will allow you to run a headspeed of 2100?

But will the sexiness allow it to go past 1850 rpms?
