Who thinks we should have an off topic thread? I would still like us to show vids and chat about heli's other than the HBFP on here, but if we want to talk about something that isn't a heli topic or a serious heli topic then it would be nice to be able to chat somewhere else without fear of breaking Helifreak rules. What do you think guys?

There's a whole off-topic forum here:

https://www.helifreak.com/forumdisplay.php?f=30

and for those of us over 40 there's the old-farts club

Yep those are a couple of biggish rooms and I'm quite happy with another one here. Will make my life easier - you should see the garbage I have to sweep up after a day of average posts on here

I agree with Bugster, would be nice to have one here. Smaller and perhaps more intimate.
I'm all for making Bugster's life that little bit easier.

What a good idea OD
There are other sections like this but i feel lost and to be honest i like chatting to you nice bunch.
Would be nice so i can chat about my trex 250 & 450's in the HBFP section without feeling guilty as my Bee does not get out much these days.

Go on Bugster ill be posting more if you add that section

OK sounds good - but unfortunately not something I can do as a mod, needs admin powers from very high up the Ivory Tower at Head Office - so I'll ask Will.

In the meantime could we not use this thread? It will obviously be a bit disjointed with several conversations going at once but that may even add to the fun.

I can get the ball rolling with a quick run down of my day. Had good flights with the 250 . Couldn't wait for home time to get the hall to myself. Prayed the headteacher wouldn't stay behind. She didn't
Then I crashed the 250 and whilst walking home, tried to help a woman catch her dog in the park, grabbed it and it bit me and drew blood

Just another boring Thursday then

Spending time messing with work and helis at the same time......
Trying to take my mind off a wisdom tooth extraction that takes place tomorrow afternoon!

Hmm, well it's heli related.

My 700 flew... briefly. Now the engine is screwed and I need a new one. Bye bye £240. The joys of nitro. I also kicked it and broke the skids in frustration. Meh. Skids I can deal with, new engines I can't.

Also, stacked both the 450 and the 500. It rains when it pours eh!?

Really sorry to hear that Lynx. I never had a fixed wing engine blow or seize but they were always coolish in the massive prop wash, and quite a few would die for no reason in the air but at least you could always glide back down.

Heard of a few heli engines giving up big time though. Was it fuel mixture do you think ? I know that can be a pig to get right with so much oil and nitro in the fuel particularly with a new motor.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt.

I was so worried of wrecking the engine in the Kestrel, that I ran 3 or 4 tanks of fuel through it with no blades on & strapped to a workmate. No more than 20% throttle & only quick bursts at that, constantly twiddling with the mixture screws all the time. It's loosening up nicely now, & idles much lower than it did when new.

Sorry to hear that Dan, it seems buying a big heli is the easy part, it's flying and maintaining it that's hard

Thinking OT is a nice idea as well...
Gives me the opportunity to say that I just did it.... I left E-sky and ordered the Blade MSR

It seems I'm not getting the flight time on my brand new HBFP V2 that I want due to windy autum weather so I just had to get an indoor alternative....
Hoping to get it by next weekend!!

Maidened the Kestrel today.....

Kestrel (4 min 27 sec)

Still pretty rich, and very low throttle curves, so it's a bit sluggish still.
I'll lean it off & raise the curves over the next few tankfulls.
At 200 beer tokens, I'm a happy bunny.

Oh, and ignore the canopy, it's a "work in progress" (ahem)

Then after a bit of inspiration from Antony's "Buzzing the camera" video, I dug the 250 out and had a whizz round...

250 Buzzing (1 min 5 sec)

Crap flying & crap editing. I'll try it again when it ain't so windy.

Sorry about the sound. It got trashed in the translation somewhere.

Well done on the maiden flight there Dilligaf, looked ultra stable

Loved the 250 vid, loved the fade in's and punch outs. You gotta post vids more often

Oh, I didn't get off so lightly afterall with that crash the other day. Flew this afternoon and had a firm landing but not HARD and the skids broke. Must have been weakend from the other day. Got King 2 skids on now. Must say, they look ok.
Had to put the 40mm tail blades on today. I just can't adjust the pushrod enough. It's a carbon one and I can't shorten it anymore or move the servo mount any further up the boom. Tail's working good though.
