Default RCX 3-in-1, Inexpensive, <$20, ~100W discharger, plug and play

I just heard about this intriguing discharger, branded RCX. Inexpensive (currently $16), and apparently capable of up to 150W discharges, for 2S-6S LiPos. It connects to the balance lead, and automatically stops the discharge when you hit the voltage you set (defaults to 3.9V/cell).

Product page for the "RCX 3-in-1 Battery Balancer, Discharger & Voltage Indicator (150W Discharging)". It is apparently also a cell-checker, and can do some cell balancing:

I read about it on RCG. User jj604 did a very helpful review of it:

This is the thread where I heard about it, which includes feedback from some satisfied users:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2269421

He got just under 4A on different cell counts, including when discharging 6S, so about 30W from 2S, up to 95W from 6S. But even that is much more than many chargers offer for 6S.

No DIY load-building needed, just plug in your pack and go. For the price, it seems tough to beat. If you want more discharge power, you could get 2.

I saw this a while back and thought it might be an good option for those that don't have high discharge capacities on their chargers or don't want the heat stress on their chargers. Given the price I would not feel comfortable leaving this unattended.

It would be concerned that the bulbs are a bit fragile, exposed like that.

I purchased this discharger from RC Mart per your recommendation RO. Could not believe it came in from China in 1 week with standard shipping. I mounted the bulb bases in a piece of aluminum angle to keep them separated and cool. This product works great and discharges pretty fast. Great value for the money and highly recommended. Thanks.

Awesome, thank you for posting your experience. It seemed like a great option for bringing packs down for minimal cost, and no DIY.

Until now, most external-discharge solutions that I've seen, including the ones I have, have been designed/assembled by the user. Which takes some planning, and is more hassle.

Wonder if you could parallel 2 of these to discharge a 6s faster. Just thinking.

I don't really see why not. Make a Y-cable, connect to two. Each has its own controller, and will stop its discharge when it reaches the target voltage.

When one stops, the reduced draw may let the voltage rise slightly, but probably ok.
