Hey brw0513,

Fan shroud will be 3D printed in ABS, I should get it done this week.

Probably a bit early to buy a kit, I still have to run this engine in and flight test it.

I have the Futaba temp sensor going in, so I'll be able to feedback over the coming weeks how effective the cooling concept is. (fingers crossed).

Anyway stay tuned....Joey.

Will the production kits fan shroud be printed as well?

I'm also curious as to where you will be monitoring engine temp and what pipe do you plan on using?

Edit: I see a PowerBoost pipe mounted up, Joey do you know if the Hatori pipe will fit?

Is that ABS heat proof?

Hmmm, melting point of ABS is 105C (221F), engine operating temp is 130C (266F). Not sure what the fan shroud will see temp wise. If it comes in contact with the head I think the material may deform, but maybe some folks with more experience in thermoplastics can chime in.

Hey Guys,

These shrouds look to be made from GF (glass filled) Polypropylene. This is a very cheap common plastic. Its melting point is 130 degs C. ABS is extruded from the printer at 220 degs C, as mentioned as long it doesn't touch the motor and has an air gap it should be ok. This can be said also for PP.

In an Ideal world this part would be Injection molded, but at low volumes just isn't viable.

However once I have proven the cooling ability of this concept with the GT15HZ-600, it is possible to machine a permanent mold/s in Alu. to hand cast urethane plastic resin.

This would be a good solution as the resin plastic has excellent heat resistance, good mechanical properties, and low cost enough for the required volumes. And overall still cost effective. Color ranges are also great, semi-transparent also easily achieved.

I just need to prove the cooling, ABS will be ok for this, I think.

Joey.

Joey.
I've received quotes from companies for injection molding tooling, that's some serious cash.
I'm sure you can make the part work successfully through FDM. Too bad nylon 12 has such a low melt point as well.

Any more updates on the build?

Hey Guys,

Got the pullleys this week, did the required re-worked on the fan one. All done.

3D printed many shrouds to adjust clearances and tolerances. Build can now be finished.

Here's some update pics before final build...enjoy.

Added a rib for extra rigity.

Adjusted for minimum cooling clearances.

Clutch Bell and bearing assembly, starter not fitted yet.

Ignore screw lengths, just temporary.

Test prints for fan clearance tuning.

Tail servo fitted perfectly...happy.

Custom, magnet holder disc fits well also.

I'll get more assembling done tonight.

Cheers. Joey.

Nice work Joey. Woohoo!

If that arrangement doesn't address the cooling duties then I might walk backwards to Vermont just to say g'day.

Please consider my previous offer regarding my GT15HZ-600. This model really deserves some truly objective analysis regarding gearing, blade length and head speed.

Keep up the good work.

Hey Gents,

Just a quick update.

Going together well so far, stuff lining up well also.

( Lots of assemble, check, disassemble check, re-assemble etc etc )

Hoping to have it started, and begin running in this weekend.

Enjoy.

Cheers Joey.

I don't think I've been this excited for a build...

Will there be optional gearing available for those who wish to stretch their 570?

This might be a stupid question, but do you have to pull the motor with bottom plate off to pull the spark plug? Looks like the rear frame stiffner plate is tabbed into the frame halves.

I think you can go right in the back under the frame spacer and get to the plug...
at least that is what it looks like in the pic to me...

Off first glance it didn't look like you can get a socket in there.
