Default GPS Expander Question

Was playing around with my GPS and Eagle Tree unit this evening/morning. The instructions just say to plug it in right..at first it didn't work then realized plugged in wrong. Will this hurt the unit? Noticed after I got it plugged in right the true course seem a little flaky.

The true course will be flaky unless you are in motion. I've done the same a few times (plugged in reverse), sometimes even plugged in the wrong row, still going strong for 1 year +.

What about the record mode? In live view the GPS picks up satalites almost instantlly...but when I try to record it never connects...do I need to set the record to trigger off the GPS connection so it can connect and then start recording?

I don't think it hurts it but, I don't know. I haven't tried. Sometimes my readings are a little off. At least when I've taken it for a ride in the truck for testing. And not a very scientific test; just displaying my trip in Google Earth. A couple spots it showed me driving below the road. LOL.

Bill, when you are in record mode, and then download and play back the flight, does the message "GPS Acquiring Fix" appear in the lower lefthand corner of the software? Or does the message "No GPS Detected" appear?

Jeff, GPS altitude works best when there is a 3D fix, and lots of sattelites in view. I'm wondering if the fix might have been 2D when you were shown under the road?

Hello all,

I was having the same issue with my new Eagletree GPS. My flight path altitude was showing large swings in altitude and dipping below the ground.

I was desperatelysearching for some type of calibration feature for the GPS unit and found nothing.

I will share the steps I figured out...

Steps to open your Session in google earth

1. In the eagletree window...click on File..."save for google earth".
2. Open google earth...File... Open.... and pick your saved session( .kml file).
3. In google earth in the "places" window right click on your session ( .kml file) and
click on the properties, new window opens, then click the Altitude tab and choose either "Clamp to ground" or "Clamp to sea floor" ( saw no difference)

This fixed my altitude problem

The steps for this was not clearly explained by eagletree

My fixed session... funny tho you can see right where I started in the correct parking stall and when I finished I went right back to the same spot but, it shows me going way off to the right of the field
