Hard to keep a smooth hover
I have a 915 and ever since the blades seem like they literally 'cut' the air and I have a very hard time maintaining a smooth hover. If I give it extremely slight collective movements it really doesn't seem to respond. So I have to slowly increase the collective to the point where it pops up. I can dial the headspeed down (aux3 knob) to a point where it is slow enough to stop this behavior but the esc really doesn't like to go that slow (get's hot).
Is this common? |

Are you an experienced flyer? If not, this motor is very fast and very torquey, so you may need to increase D/R and Expo to taste. I normally fly with zero expo, but with my 915 I feel 10% actually makes it a bit more crisp with smaller cyclic movements. Make sure to check if your servos operate smoothly, and maybe even clean them if you haven't in a while. As for the headspeed lowering, you really don't want to go lower with the stock ESC firmware. You are right as the ESC gets hot and can damage the ESC and Motor itself. What you can do (and I and a few others currently use) is sskaug's BLHeli flash for SiLabs ESC's (XP3A, XP7A, XP12A, etc) https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=390517. Itll enable a governor mode, which safely lets you lower HS without causing any problems. Also removes the need for a BL Converter such as TheSteve. Ive went down as low as 65% on my 915, and it felt like I was flying a wimpy coaxial it was so slow. I usually fly mine at 100% and have another curve set at 75% for smaller area flying.
