Adjust the motor so that you have a little bit of play. Then rotate the motor, while checking the play. You will find that the gear is not perfectly round, and that one spot will have less play than the rest of the gear. This is the point that you want to adjust the lash. I adjust it so that it when I hold the motor, and try to rotate the gear, it barely clicks back and forth. After tightening the motor down, check it again! Many times tightening the motor down will cause the lash to move on you. Also, have the motor plate bolted in place when you do it. It't a lot of trial and error, and a pain in the but, but getting the lash correct is important.

Also if you are using the Gaui BL motor spin the head and there should not be any type of binding. When I do mine it spins freely and it is smooth. It almost feels like I forgot to put the pinion on because it so smooth. This is how I have mine setup. On the motor mount I have about 1 MM gap from the bolt to the end of the motor mount the end facing the tail. This has been the best setup for me so far and haven't strip or had any issues. I hope this will help you.

You have to take out the whole motor mount to do it.

Get the Gaui "OK" gears, they are both round and will last for ever. We are running Z30´s on these gears without any issues. They are cheap as well.

Put a piece of paper between the pinion and first 42T gear to get the right clearance.
Adjusting the motor is a pain, but there is a simple way to do it.
Tighten the motor screws up just enough so you still can move the motor.
Put the motormount back in the chassie.
Tap on the motor screws untill you get the right play (using the paper between the gears).
Remove the motormount and tighten the motor screws up.

Done...
