On the topic of heat shrink- pretty sure there are 2 types, the turnigy stuff isn't just thin....it's a diff formulation.
And for servo pins/housings- I love Hansen hobbies, great folks!

Justin,
I'm going to plug the G570 too. I flew mine of 12S for a couple years, and recently changed it to 7S. I dropped almost a pound in the process and while it may be a little bit less ballistic, the lighter loading makes it a delight to fly. Still has serious power. Once I swap out the YGE 160 it will be a bit lighter yet. As you have heard (ad nauseum) it flies almost like a 700...

Hansen Hobbies for connectors (and servo wire) - http://www.hansenhobbies.com/
For small batches of really nicely machined stainless steel screws, washers, and nuts - Trimcraft RC. Fast shipping times, very very cheap shipping, and you don't have to buy batches of 100. - http://www.trimcraftaviationrc.com/ Avid RC is my source for bearings, if only because it's super easy to locate bearings on a link-list on the left hand side of the site. - http://avidrc.com/product/1/bearings/

+1 for avidrc - they don't have every size, but they have nearly everything and I've never had a bad bearing from them. Also, $1/bearing.

AVID Bearings here as well. Maybe not the same quality but have worked for me the last couple years. And all the smallish bearings are $1 each.
On the bulk heat shrink thing...........Not sure why this wasn't mentioned......I buy bulk in 1 meter lengths, then I cut it down to 3-4 inch lengths and store it in a plastic divided container. McMaster Carr can suck it. Good cheap selection but if you do not live in the CONUS you get screwed on shipping. And they do not tell you how much shipping is until after they shipped it and charged you. I ordered around 300 small 3M screws. They packed it in a 15" x 8" x 8" box and shipped it 2nd Day Fed Ex. $23. Morons. I live in Puerto Rico which is domestic shipping through USPS Flat Rate first off, and secondly they could have used a small padded envelope for this order. This has happened to me once before too. I forgot how they work and assumed this time they would send me the invoice first before shipping. First time was 100 foot roll of that braided servo covering. Was in a box 8 time the size of the roll. Idiots. |

So when ordering bulk screws, what thread size do we order? Looks like with McMaster Carr you need to select "metric" or "Metric fine"

The sizes we use (m3, m4, maybe m5 in a few places) are all only available in a single thread pitch.

McMaster is great for some stuff, or if you need tons.
My personal favorite place for fasteners is boltdepot.com.

Another great episode
I agree with the fellas on the hobby decline, particularly new heli release "flooding" of the market drowning enthusiasm- but it's funny the one brand this comment is a result of is the one they all fly on the show...

I hear ya. They're good helis and having a strong company in the hobby that parts are everywhere is very important. I'm going to keep flying them and enjoying them, but will not be surprised when the crap hits the fan.

True mate true, and I wouldn't be too concerned if and when if ever shiz hits the fan, gotta remember the foundation of this hobby is the people and I'm sure there are more than enough good people in the hobby to keep it alive even if it does completely die (die in size and commercially).

I just think that most (younger especially) consumers want something new fairly regularly and SAB caters to that. It's just smart marketing for the times. I agree with Bert that the anticipation of a new model each year was a lot of fun, but SAB is going for the something for everyone and anyone. You can get any size model that you want from one company, have a design you're familiar with, and quality you can count on. If their manufacturing systems can handle all of that, then I don't see the crap hitting the fan if they manage it correctly. They just can't leave a bunch of happy customers out hanging at some point. If they do that, then excrement just might hit the rotor blades.

I believe it is a Revolectrix 5000 420 Blend GOpack Silver 70C.
They have them in 435 Blend as well. The website says the 435's weigh less but I haven't confirmed that yet. I have the 420's and confirmed the weight. 900 grams each. |
