Default Stock Gaui 425 need anything? also my list of items

Just wondered what if anything should be updated, I have read and read and seems most love this heli out of the box, but one dude told me he had lot of slope in his head, did he put it together wrong?

is the canopy, landing gear/pipes/ tail grips and all the same on the 425 and the 550?

Everyone says the stock canopy stinks right!?
is this one a good one?
http://rcdumbthumbs.com/G-204164.aspx
or does the 425 take driffrent one? I wouldn't see why it would but making 100% clear to myself.

what blades do everyone run?

425/430 is the size for the 425 right?
Anyone buy the cheaper blades like say under $25.00 a set?

are the stock tail blades good or should they be upgraded?

I guess I should get the heli, build it and fly it and find out for myself, afterall everyone told me the B400 flew like crap until you upgraded to fully CNC head and tail and mine is all stock plastic 260 flights.

I have a Gaui 425, new in the box, only opened to check make sure all was in it on the way, getting it from a guy here who got it from the big heli event last year IRCHA and ended up never building it.Guess it be hear by next week.

It will be a slow build as I do not have money for motor, esc, gyro, motor, servos. right now.

I was told buy someone with 300 flights on his that he uses Futaba 3001 servos. so I have (2)F-3004's I just got to get one more.
so I plan to use those for cyclic.

Required Pulse: 3-5 Volt Peak to Peak Square Wave

Operating Voltage: 4.8-6.0 Volts

Operating Speed (4.8V): 0.23sec/60 degrees at no load

Operating Speed (6.0V): 0.19sec/60 degrees at no load

Stall Torque (4.8V): 44 oz/in. (3.2kg.cm)

Stall Torque (6.0V): 56.8 oz/in. (4.1kg.cm)

I was going to use Hyperion DS20FMD for cyclic but if these futabas be fine I will use them for now.
Asked about 500 class heli servos on the trex thread and everyone keeps giving $50 a piece servos. I just can not spend that much.

Not sure if I should go 4.8V or 6.0v.
Most likley I will use a 2 cell A123 1100mah pack
rather then a BEC.

I still plan to get a hyperion DS20 GMD for the tail. unless someone knows of a better tail servo for less then $50.00

I want to get a Spartan 760 Gryo but Not sure I be able to afford one. now with the copys at HK I do not know I trust buying a used one cause it might not be same as the real ones( not saying the HK are fake, I have no clue)

I want to get a Castle creations 75Amp ICE

Still not 100% on motor
will depend on the battery's, not sure want to try 6
or 7 cell A123's or go with 6cell (2)3 cell 2250's

So far I have considered the

Scorpion 3026-1400kv

Turnigy 500 H3126 1600KV
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/stor ... ner_1600KV

Hobby King 500H Heli Motor 1600kv (500 Class)
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...28500_Class%29

Turnigy Typhoon 500H Heli Motor 1800kv
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...28500_Class%29

Turnigy 500 H3126 Brushless outrunner 1300KV
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...trunner_1300KV

what you guys think ? these all from HK about $20-$25.00 motors, or should I just wait and get the scorpion, or is the stock motor better? I know lots say the bearings go out in the scorpions but i wonder if its due to to tight gear mesh and super high headspeeds.

One nice thing about the Gaui heli is you can change the gears for driffrent HS's

Thanks for info

Whoa - too many questions

Not heard of people having slop in head, mine needed sizing. Canopy on 425 is poor, landing gear is fine - though a bit small so Trex 600 or Outrage 550 is a good alternative. Tail grips are the same - tail blades smaller on 425

Yep - that's a good 'un, will be fine on 425 (same frame)

All sounds good - it's me with the 3001s - not as fast as I'd like, but fine for my sports flying. Hyperions are good servos

I'm a bit greedy, I've got 2 Hurricanes - 1 with 500mm boom and blades, and one with 550mm boom and blades. I have a Z20A980kV in one and the standard Gaui 850kV in the other (both with Gaui 50A ESCs), the Z20A 980kV is a really good motor for the 500mm and 550mm config, but not ideal for a 425 as you are pushed to get the HS up as high as you want - actually you probably could if you used some of the car-pinions that some of the guys are using.

Oh, alright thanks for the info.looks like they make from 12-16 pinions. i read the OWB is kinda weak the stock 19T, seems most go to a 20T OWB.

The basic kit is pretty good out of the box. As already stated the canopy is ugly and I changed mine out right away with this one:

http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=4429
For $25.00 you cant go wrong.

I had my tail blades break the thrid flight out. I'm not sure what happened but they shattered on spool up. I replaed them with a set from my raptor 30. They work pretty good.

Other than that all I did was add electronics and blades and go fly.

I'm running a scorpion 3026 1400kv, I'm not sure where the battery eater rumor comes from but I'm getting 7 minutes with 2500mah 6s hyperion packs running a 2300 headspeed governed and pull only 1400 out of the pack. BTW the castle ice esc's are great, especially if you have a castlelink to program them.

Thanks for your input.
Wow I wonder why they exploded like that. maybe I will find some better ones. the KBDD or whatever there called I not sure what MM ones i need. some run 82 some 69 some 79 not sure what the driffrent sizes are for.

That seems pretty good 7 minutes I be happy if I get 5mins that is what i am used to flying with my B400 now.

yes i have castle link I use a CC25A now on my B400 with gov mode I love it.

you may want to look at my post about my Guai 425 falling out of the sky....the Scorpion 1400 runs really hot and turns off on me on 90 degree days. I'm running Scorpion 3026-1210 without issue.

Thanks, I had glanced at your thread when you first posted. I figured it was just to long flight time. 8 minutes. I will be flying 5 at most I would guess. At first i will be flying 2,3 mins to be sure everything is okay.

you think the 1210 is better? what kinda headspeed you running?

For a motor, I am using the Tonic-X Z20-1470kv in my 425. Has lots of power and runs very cool. I get 4:30 min. flights with 6s 2500's running a head speed of close to 3000.

http://www.helidirect.com/tonicx-z20...fan-p-6012.hdx

For blades, I run the cheap Pro3D FRP blades, although I have some Pro3D CF blades too, but haven't tried them yet.

http://www.helidirect.com/430mm-pro-...00-p-10346.hdx

Running JR/Spektrum DS 821 servos on the cyclic. They work great for my flying skills. They retail for $29.99 usd, but you can usually find them here in the classifieds on HF for about $20 usd each.

The stock plastic canopy is kinda crappy, but works great if you are worried about crashing it. I also bought the canopy from AlleRC that Wobbles listed in an earlier post.Very nice for the money.

I use the stock Gaui 50A esc. I got it from Marty on here for about $12 or $15 usd used. It works fine and has a great soft start.
The only relatively costly thing on my 425 is the JR G770 gyro/ DS3500 tail servo combo. It retails for $225 usd, but I got it on sale last year at ReadyHeli for $165.

Check the classifieds, check the sales at some of the suppliers and you can build a decent heli for about half the cost of what you might think. I know, cause I am cheap.

The 1400 was a nice motor but it ran too hot, had very good power. The 1210 is very similar but runs much cooler. I would say the power is down by 5% to 10% but you wont b you receive 3rd degree burns if you touch the motor post flight. If you look at the specs on Scorpion's web page you will see that 1400 is rated a max continuous power of 1680w compared to 1365w on the 1210. I was running about 2800 hs with the 1400 now i'm down to 2600 with the 1210, but I may be raising it soon.

Thanks for the reply and the links, man those blades are in my price range. but I am worried, I use Carbon fiber on my B400, fiberglass weigh more right, does that effect anything.
Thank's you guys

oh, alright thanks, is not that not a high headspeed? seems 2800 max for this heli or not? I think i like to go for about 2600HS with mine to start with. thats what i run on my Blade 400 now most run 2800 on the 450 sized or even 3,000 i do nto need that high headspeed for what i am doing. And i need to get used to a larger heli also
