Default Rush 750 Build Thread

Hamstar78 and I are going to be doing a Rush 750 build thread. We'll be using some different electronics and some other different bits.

We'll get started in a couple of days, so hang in there! The time is VERY near!!!

Excellent Scott! Judging by your 7HV, the Rush is destined to turn out extremely nice.

Dom,

It won't be next week, that's for sure! I would say Wednesday, Thursday at the latest.

Cool. What I have found doing my build threads is you start the build with a photo of every possible step, by the end you have one photo of your first sub-assembly and the next photo is the completed heli. Keep the camera close and try to remember to snap alot of photos. You will always miss the photos you need to explain a detail to someone. As a rep having alot of the build photos really helps. I had enough photos of my outrage stuff I could just relink them from one of my galleries to better explain some concept.

Default Let the fun begin!!!

The time is NOW. The kit is HERE. Upon first glance, this is an outstanding example of the genius of Charley Stephens. So, without further delay....

What's in the box...

Some of the packing may not be representative of the final product, but hey... it's exciting. At the top is the boom, boom supports, and other tail bits. The boom is anodized black with ALeeS in white. Below the boom and to the right is a box containing the goodies below. To the right of the goodies box is the Carbon Fiber parts bag. To the right of the Carbon Fiber parts bag is the landing gear parts bag. Note that the landing gear tubes are black anodized and have ALeeS on the skid tubes. To the right of the landing gear bag is the beautiful canopy! It's stunning! It comes with guide holes pre-set in the fiberglass. The canopy is very sturdy.

Above is the contents of the goodies box! All the bits to put everything together. I should note that included with the kit are allen wrenches to complete the head assembly--a very thoughtful and cool step as most folks would have have to order these large wrenches to complete the head assembly. We're talking 5mm bolts.

The canopy. Pictures will never do this canopy justice. It is stunningly beautiful! The finish is better than any canopy I have. Stunning!!!

Next up... Head Assembly.

That canopy is hot! Shouldn't be any problems with visibility!

Head assembly...

Lots of notes here...

All the center stack parts of the head come in parts bag 1.

From left to right: 12mm main shaft, included allen wrenches, dampers/flap inserts, head block with blade stop button, swashdriver/pitch link arm, and bolts.

Head block bag contents.

What's in the little bowl? Ninety-nine percent alcohol. Soak your screws, bolts, and non-nylock nuts in alcohol, and wipe them clean before using. This removes oil used during manufacturing.

I always measure bolts and screws to be on the safe side.

Assembly order of the head block. The order is, flap inserts, dampers, and finally the damper spacers (those go on the 10mm spindle shaft, later).

Flap inserts are keyed. Two sides are flat. The two flat sides mate with the flats inside the head block. This is to keep the inserts in place and stop them from rotating in flight.

To install the flap inserts, insert the tapered end first then use the end of your finger to lightly push while turning them. They need to go all the way in the machined surfaces.

Next, insert the dampers. Mine went in with moderate pressure.

Here's one of the innovations of the Rush 750. The integrated swash driver and pitch lever assembly. Note the small nylock nuts used to hold the swash links in place. This is a bearing loaded assembly. It comes assembled, but you should check tightness of the bolt/nut. Mine were perfect.

Red thread locker is recommended for the pitch balls.

Red thread locker is permanent, so use it VERY sparingly if you ever want to replace parts. The ball links are cool. A 2.5mm hex driver is used for installation. This is different from most helicopter kits.

Balls installed.

The swash driver/pitch lever arms fit over machined posts in the head block. Before you install the swash driver/pitch lever arms, you need to partially install the pinch bolts.

Note the depth of the pinch bolt. It's roughly even with the swash driver/pitch lever assembly. While you probably could install the pinch bolts later, you risk cross threading. Install them now, but don't use blue thread locker, yet. There is ample space on the opposite side of the pinch bolt for thread lock application when you're installing the head for setup.

That's it for the the head block. Next up... grips.
