Default To Lean or not to lean the idle mixture screw

Ok, I just watched the smacktalk rc video about nitro engine tuning and Bert Says do NOT adjust the idle mixture screw. Now I have a .55 OS and have had the idle mixture screw leaned out about 5 degrees for a couple of gallons now and it idles very well. After watching the video, I adjusted the screw back to to the factory settings and I had to lower my throttle endpoint in the transmitter (from 95% to 88%) just to keep it idleing. Also, when I hit throttle hold now after a flight, the engine idles up a good bit. It seemed to run better at the lean settings but I trust what Bert is teaching. What should I do?

Thanks for your help.

Set it to where it runs the best.

Bert is assuming that newbies are watching his video...The mixture screw is adjustable for a reason.

Most engines will run good enough at the factory setting but it is ok to lean it out a smidge...or richen it up....depends on weather and elevation.

On my OS 91 I've left the idle in the factory position with no trouble, but with my OS 50, I had to lean the idle just a bit to keep it from loading up after starting while I carried the ship out to the flight line. It didn't take much at all to make a difference.

Thanks guys. I will lean it back out. It just idles better that way. I often wondered why they would put an adjustment screw on something if you were not supposed to adjust it. Anyway, thanks again.
