Default 550sx tail belt problems?

Today I was flying pretty fast inverted nose first. Before I knew it the helicopter was spinning out of control and I hit throttle hold. Managed to right it and do an auto. Zero damage. After looking it over the tail belt jumped off the rear pulley. I was at 2300rpm using the kontronik gov. Anyone else have this happen?

Great saves. Your tension may be too light.

If adjusting the tension does not help, check out this thread and my solution in post #43. I have not had any problems since this modification.

Zguy and sky it looks like your fix is the same. One bought and one made. Sky is that spedix tail belt tensioner a direct fit for the logo550sx. Just slide in and tighten up??? I did a quick search and cannot find one in stock. If I can't find one I may have to go with zguy's fix. I'm guessing I would need the same size bearings that you used and trim down the spacers on each side??? Thanks guys. Looking forward to your replies.

Zguy's solution is excellent.

Several of the guys at Whittier Narrows have had this issue and have resolved it, as he did, with two, narrow bearings next to each other.

This completely corrected the issue.

I have found the spedix tail belt tensioner. Same concept as zguy's but in a ready to buy package. Just need to figure out if it is a direct fit into the 550sx. It is advertised for the 600 models.

That's where I found it. I will give this a try. Hopefully the confidence will come back. I really loved this heli until it almost took out the flight line.

I don't think it will fit. Because width of tail clamps are different on 550 and 600.

The Spedix Tail Belt Kit = Plug And Play Kit. :-)
It is 100% compatible!

Bavci I was thinking the same thing when I first heard about spedix parts but sky has pictures of it on his 550sx. I placed the order last night and will post the fitment and flight tests once I have it.

The packaging indicates 550sx as well as other sizes. Fits perfect. Testing to come.

el guapo,

I have a Logo 600 3D that is several years old and it has never had this problem either. The idler pulley/roller is wider than the ones on the newer, SX machines I have seen (I have seen two, so far).

The two SX machines both exhibited this problem. Both pilots resolved it by going to two, narrow bearings (in lieu of rollers) that are approximately the width to the Spedix part

all three of my logos use the standard thin bearing as an idler. the one I fly the most is 100% stock tail box. my backup logo600 has the lynx tail, but besides that, it is stock. my logo 500 I upgraded to the carbon tail. 100% mikado tail. and this belt jump has never happened to me. I've flown the helis a lot.

th only thing I do special is I'm very particular about the tail box shimming. and I've writen a few posts on what I do, but its not that special.
