I have the constant driven tail main gear set up ( which came with another heli) and im trying to see if it fits. is it supposed to be a drop in part? because its interfering with the clutch bell. how is it supposed to be installed?

A long time ago we made driven tail systems that could be used on another popular brand.

Similar but different.

Chris will have to confirm or deny that one. What I remember back in the early to mid 90's, Bergen was making "upgrade" parts for X-Cell helicopters but Larry eventually stopped that and started producing the Intrepid. I started flying them around 1996 and they did not have the fully driven tail at that time. Miniature Aircraft sold an upgrade part called a "slipper clutch" (or something like that) that would also fit the Intrepid. It replaced the collar that Bergen uses at the bottom of the main mast below the auto hub on their helicopters with a exterior threaded version. There was then another cup shaped fixture that threaded on that part. The cup had an o-ring installed in it that matched the bevel on the bottom of the auto hub and drug the main gear and it's tail drive along with the main shaft. It gave the model some tail control in an auto but if you loaded it to any degree, the system would slip. You could adjust the tension but if you put it too tight, the rotor system would be driving the engine until things slowed down enough for the clutch to release. It was an imperfect solution but it worked for the kind of flying we did in those days. No hard core 3D. I was using that system when Larry first released the fully driven tail gear set they sell today. Man, what a difference. I don't like flying any other configuration. Bergen's system might, and I emphasize "might" work on some of the older X-Cells but I'd be very surprised if it would work on anything currently produced (X-Cell or otherwise) without some significant mods. I could be wrong of course. Just a little history from my perspective!

Fly Safe,
Steve R.

Obviously, I was typing this up while Chris was answering the question!!

The throttle arm for our Industrial Twin Carb is .185. Same arm as the standard engine, just a bigger ID.

The diameter has changed, we'll have to get a set of clamps out to you, including the horizontal fin clamp.

Didn't mean to make you think you were losing you're mind.....

Depends on which way your tail servo is facing. We don't give a dimension, and I can't give you one, because there are too may variables, such as how far in your tail boom goes into the frame and the tail servo direction.

I glue one end on to the pushrod and let it dry. Center the servo, center the pitch slider on the output shaft, snap the ball link onto the servo wheel ball, then mark the pushrod where it needs to be cut (taking into account the installation of the other end piece).

Got my EB setup 1450, 1550, 1650 with 800mm blades per the manufacturer's recommendation. She's four years old this month, minimal maintenance, never an incident and she flies nearly every weekend, holiday and then some!

To stretch a standard Gasser to the EB, besides the obvious parts changes related to the tail boom, you'll need to swap the pinion gear from 14 to 12 teeth. With that gearing, the minimum hover rpm is 1450 to insure the clutch remains fully engaged. Maximum rpm is 1650 which keeps the engine within its normal range.

Personally, I really like the EB. That big rotor disk definitely adds to the birds "presence" in the air.

Good luck & Fly Safe,
Steve R.
