I don't think the governor in the HW is improved.
I'll run external gov (in FBL unit) as well - the HW is perfect for such a gov...

Hi Guys,

I tried to update my HobbyWing 120A using the turnigy usb link v1.62.
I did like Bob O explained in detail here.

I can see all values of the ESC I've set with using just the programming box.
But all buttons (Apply, Default, ...) are disabled
Even after I change values...

And I can't update the firmware! The Upgrade button is disabled too - as well as the "Choice Version" dropdown...

If I choose update from the help menu it sais that its the last version.
The "Software" tab shows the following infos:
Device Type: AIRPLANE_ESC_HV
Hardware Version: HW120_V2.0A
Software Version: V1.08_101106_U

I have the bad feeling that Hobbywing has a new FW on the 120A so I'm not able to upload the Turnigy firmware

Soko,

I recently updated the firmware on a 120A that I had. Have you tried the latest Hobbywing USB link software? I used it and it also has the updated soft start fix.

Hi Rodney,

Thx for the info. I found installed and tried this v3.1 of the HW software.
I updated from firmware V1.08_101106_U to V1.08_101106_U_a

I thought th kick start is a general Hobbywing firmware issue and only the turnigy FW will fix it.
Do you use the same FW as I?
If the kick start is solved with that firmware (haven't tried it yet) I'm happy

In my experience, the V1.08 Hobbywing firmware soft start is the same as the Turnigy V1.07. I should say "very soft start" because the "soft start" setting is still not all that soft.

Yes, I chose the "very soft" option

My test unfortunately showed that the "very soft" option still kicks quite hard...
My heli turns 120° when starting on concrete and the blades fold until they "crash" on the blade grip - even though I have them real tight

So does anyone know a way how to use/try the Turnigy FW on the new HW 120A-HV hardware version?

thx
Soko

how are your brain rampup seettings and spoolup?

I got it dialed in so it spins on asphalt (run no rubbers) but on grass they are all quite ok, no blade folding etc.

1 very cheap dirty trick, is to rotate up the main by hand, before going 1-2% depending on your setup of course.

I run hw both in 6hv and 700E, both goved. 1 with sk720, other brain.

Hi,

I have no ramp on the brain. It seems that the brain gov takes over as soon as it sees more than 0% throttle from the Tx.
But I tried to spool up with no governor enabled and a 45° throttle curve. even if I give just a little bit of throttle the kick happens...

What hardware version are your 120A ESCs?

I also have this 5 seconds delay between throttle input and actual start of the rotation of the head...

thx
Soko

I dont really have "normal" mode on any of my goved helis, the second I remove thold, it spools, meaning I have 3 presets for headspeed, and all pitchcurves are 0-100%

please screenshot soko so we can help, I actually have "all" the versions of HW hardware meaning 1/2, they are kinda equal.

Hey guys,

Sorry for the late answer. Was pretty busy during the week

Here's the screenshot. I hope the software loads the values from a saved file with no Brain acutally connected to it (Demo Mode):

@ragge1: You didn't have any problem to update your ESC with the Turnigy software v1.62?

@andersn: Thanks for your help. So you did update the hardware-version 2.0A with Turnigy?
Maybe I should go down with the "Spoolup timeout" (there's no tooltip help for this!) and "Spoolup ramp".
But I tried to spool up with a deactivated governor => same issues

thx

set ramp up to 1 for testing, instead of 2,

also set timeout to 30 seconds, not 10

the ramp up, and ramp down, are for actual in flight toggles, how fast it increases, or decreases head rpm

the spoolup ramp, and spoolup timeouts is what controls the slow spooling, if you have to low timeout value, it will start to spool soft, then bam, hit pretty hard.

btw why do you have same values for 1/2? on headspeed

can you set them to the values I suggested, remove all blades (ALSO TAIL!!) then make a video?

just set your left stick midstick like you normally would, then go off thold.

here is a brain softstarting and spooling slow, don't mind the ESC catching fire... the spoolup is the thing here... it takes about 4-5 seconds for it to start, but this can be tuned with start low throttle pulses
