The tail bearings sometimes get squished when you tighten the end screws on the outer frame.
Stick a washer inbetween the frame and a bearing and you are good to go!

Hi,

G5 build on-going, I plan to put a BEAM carbon tail push rod... How do you have dealt with the G5 push rod guides (the holes are too small for the beam tail push rod)

thanks,

cédric

To be honest, I've run an 1/8" carbon push rod on my T-Rex 450 and Rototworkz G4 unsupported for years with no problems, Central Hobbies makes a very nice kit with 2 rods and 4 titanium barbed ends, then you can purchase extra ends and make up a few more push rods, they hold up very well.

Hi,

I re-edited this post in order to avoid asking questions everywhere. I also added photos for understanding.

Questions
1/ Does it matter if I run a beam carbon push rod with no guides on the boom?
2/ What are everyone's DX7 swash values?
Mine:
AILE +40 %
ELEV -50%
PITCH +50%

I had to reduce AILE cause when I put the sticks on the corners the right servo arm was touching the frame. I may also have to dremel a bit the screw...?

High resolution picture : http://www.gamani.org/g5/DSC_8933.JPG

3/ I went to setting up the head, followed the linkage measures ... and also leveled with a swash leveler the swashplate.

I mesured my pitch with a idleup curve :

High : 13
Mid : 5
Low : -5

It seems that my swashplate is too high, I may have to shorten the linkage that goes from the servos to the swashplate right?

I also think that the leveler balls has to be both aligned

High resolution picture 1 : http://www.gamani.org/g5/DSC_8930.JPG
High resolution picture 2 : http://www.gamani.org/g5/DSC_8931.JPG

3/ I used a cutter to clear the little piece of plastic that was toucing the main gear. Clearance is now ok.

1. The Beam push rod will be fine with no guide, yes.

2. The swash values will depend on how much cyclic response/pitch you want.

3. Yes, try lower your swash to get the lower mixer arms 90 degrees.

Pictures won't show.

Yep, you gotta lower your swash.

As for the screw, just take a dremel and cut it till it's clearing the frame.

Just did it , lowered the swash by 3 turns.

High : 10,1
Mid : 0,8
Low : 9.9

I don't think lowering it more will solve anything; I may have to use the long linkage that goes from the swash to the top arms

Adjust your swash links until the ball on the lower mixer arm is on pair with the radius arms. Then follow Capi's G5 Head Setup 101. You can't adjust your pitch by only adjusting the swash links.

I would be careful that servo wire doesn't make contact with the main gear. Did you try the fix in post #8 ?

I kinda like this format, it takes longer to read but it keeps the thread up to date.

Hi Capi,

for post #8, I'm really too lazy to unmount and try to reverse the pieces to clear the gap

To have clearance, I just use a cutter to cut the pick off on the tail gear

I may be dumb... but how does the G5 straps work? I cannot strap the lipo !

Thanks you for your help on this G5 build

I'm running 29% gain on the DX7 gear channel, perfect tracking. Just went for a quick hover to try out... too cold !

but MAN what a BIG difference of power comparing to my T450 ! G5 ROX.

Here're some photos

Capi, What's the trick to installing the CF tail blades? The root is to wide. Should I spread the tail blade grips a tad?

I didnt have that issue with mine.

P.S. Jurassic Park 5 twist that tail servo on your boom so it completely hides behind the boom, this will prevent it being damaged by a paddle strike.
