Default New Again

So about 6 years ago I bought a Trex 450. Taught myself to fly an was having some fun. Interests changed and sold the heli. I just picked up another one, almost the same set up. This one is flybarless, and I put a AR7200BX.

I got a new simulator, using my controller and the downloaded 450. I can fly, hover, nose in nose out. (No stunts, not my thing). But for the life of me I just cant fly the real one. I have gone through a few set of rotor blades and plenty of other parts.

I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any advice?

Transition from sim to IRL can be quite tricky:
- sim has no crash costs (no pucker factor)
- sim heli is always perfectly balanced and set up
- sim helis tend to be overpowered in comparison to IRL counterparts
- sim cyclic setup may be more docile than IRL on same TX settings due to inbuild DR/expo, blade pitch, cyclic pitch, etc...

Start slow. Make sure you can tail-in hover in normal mode on your IRL 450 (I know it's boring). Then make sure you can tail-in hover in IU mode on your IRL 450 (also boring).

Remember in spool up IRL, you are flying the moment the blades have enough speed to tilt the heli by pushing against air alone. If you see the heli tilting on spool up, either correct (if supremely confident you can) or spool down (even with a FBL) unit.

Some will tell you never correct a FBL heli before it leaves the ground. You will also be advised to takeoff as quick as possible (get it in the air and out of ground effect). There is some truth to this, however it's not gospel. FBL units can get into a feedback loop on the ground, so no input and quick takeoff is generally safe. However, I correct the attitude (tilt) of my FBL helis on spool up most flights (minute adjustments). I also, generally, do not takeoff quick. All this took a lot of practice and I now what to look for and how to correct.

Golden rule: Never fly with known problems.

Once you can do the IU hover, then start playing with other sim move IRL.

Only try stuff you have successfully done in the sim 10+ times in a row without crashing (no mulligans, every time counts).

Best of luck.
