Héhéhé, no cold six pack for me, I tried it the other day and it make me tooo muuuch confident for my skill but with still a little shake and I find I'm less concentrated and I had some blank/confused spot while flying, resulting in moving the stick in the wrong direction.....
My left hand is worst than the right one, when the right hand stop to shake after some flight, there is still shake in the left one. The last week at the field, an experienced pilot come around me while I was flying, he said Humm....!! I think you have to land right now, I see your hand shaking and that's not good..... |

Obviously, there are enough people who have admitted this...I would bet there are many more who have had this problem and not admit it. Slow deep breathing helps. There have been many times when I feel like I held my breath for way too long! I had the shakes a little over a year and it pops back up occasionally when I am trying new manuevers or lose orientation. Helis definitely are a 2 edged sword...no guts--no glory!!!! Keep pushing your skill level and then you will feel much more comfortable on more basic flying and aerobatics. Oh yea, and PRAY!!!

In actuallity alot of guys shake when flying, I've got a buddy whose whole body shakes while he's flying and you would never know it watching his bird. For an example go watch some of Finless Bob's training videos with sticks as he calls it and watch his hands. How long do you think he's been flying??? It's just adreniline and thats your high so to speak-are'nt we all adreniline junkies anyway, its probably what keeps us in this hobby.Don't sweat it just have fun!Happy Flying

do some breathing in from your nose, out from your mouth and take deep slow breathes before and during your flights. im at 104 flughts without crashing now, i dont shake anymore and im all over the sky sport flying. it will come dont worry about it. oh and also where are you flying? because i found that if i fly in my backyard i felt worried about loss of control might do some damage to something in the area and this feeling was also part of my shaking problem. just take it slow and you be great. good luck to ya

This was likely the biggest thing I had to overcome while learning to fly. I was always scared flying my B400, but still managed to learn a ton with it. Going to the 500 as my welcome back to full size helis definitely gave me a BAD case of the nerves (honestly I was even feeling it a bit on the mcpx coming out of my hiatus). Real legit case of serious shaking hands the first couple times I flew it.
The first thing that helped me out was consciously forcing myself to loosen my grip on the TX and take some deep breaths to relax. It didn't sort everything out but it helped me give much smoother control inputs and ease the shaking. The shakes flying the 500 just kind of went away after several batteries and getting back into semi-regular sim practice. While it's definitely something you will get past just from experience, it will never COMPLETELY go away. Some days my first pack or two I'll get a very mild case of the shakes. If that happens I just bring it in close and do slow piros until I feel better. If it goes away and then comes back after a few flights that's when I call it a day.

I'm on blood pressure meds and still get the shakes when flying. I told my doc about it and he said it was equal to a good cardio workout. So I have my docs encouragement to fly! I knew there was something I liked about him.

My shakes come and go. They are typically directly tied to my confidence level that particular fay. I tried all the stuff everyone is saying. Lighten your grip, breath deep, shake your arms/hands out before you fly, none of it really made a difference. Then I tried short hover before flying, couple quick circuits, couple figure eights, and it really didn't do much either. What has worked was getting it off the ground and up to altitude. Then go directly into doing flips. Fronts, backs, ailerons, high speed big air loops, something big that I can complete, test my skills and set myself up for a good flight. All of a sudden during the flight I stop shaking. When I was flying planes I would do flat spins into a harrier, or slow rolling harriers into a hover back to rollers. Just something to put me on the edge, test myself, and build confidence. Not saying it will work for you, but it almost always works for me. Don't try something you can't do, but do something you are generally confident in and makes you feel good when you complete it.
Good luck Matt Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2

My advice .... enjoy the shakes. The shakes are from adrenaline, that's what makes it so fun to fly. When you have been flying as long as I have you don't get that rush much anymore. Heck I almost mid-aired last weekend with a 33% plank and my heart didnt even skip a beat.

After one year now, things have evolved, I still shake from time to time, there is some day worst than other, but generally, i'm in much better control of myself, my flying skill are much better also, this is all about confidence.
Now when I fly alone, the shake is completely gone, unless something wrong happen which give me an adrenaline rush, I just land, calm down a little and here I go again. In public (flying field) this is a little different, I still have the shake with the bigger heli for the first few flight, but very minimal compared to the last year, this is more confidence related when other look at you when you fly, but with the little 450 I'm in total control. What helped me the most is take the time to breath properly, relaxing my hand on the stick, this really work, and knowing that experienced pilot at the field have the shake from time to time have helped me in my confidence.

Shakes are normal mate, all it means is that you're nervous / excited. I vibrate like a tuning fork when I'm trying 'scary' stuff. The other problem is that I push my thumbs down so hard on the sticks they nearly bleed ! If I'm getting too tense I just fly nice n easy in my comfort zone, I relax, and it goes away.
However, that buzz of flipping the heli inverted and trying to hold it there the first few times is always gonna be intense. No matter what your skill level, if you are scaring yourself you'll shake. It's what I live for ! Some days after 5 or 6 packs I'm knackered. Completely exhausted mentally. The concentration required is massive. It's great... !!

Regards to 'shakes'
I had the shakes with my first girlfriend (quality time). This was due to lack of experience, after some time the shakes went away! Thats when she left! ROTFLMAO

I have to land 3-4 times on my first flight and shake out the shakes, so to speak. I also find that although my Tx is hanging from a neck strap, I still support it's weight with my hands and that adds to the tension. Sometimes the shakes are so bad, I can hardly land.
After that first flight, I don't need to land as much. I had a laugh with some guys about it last week. Saying this was supposed to be fun, and I am a nervous wreck after 1 minute in the air!

Just read this thread... funny stuff, because I was the same way! I have been flying for a litle over a year. At first, it was the same story... I was so full of adrenaline, and would shake so bad I could barely land the heli. My shaky left thumb would smack the collective way to far, and it looked I was doing pitch pumps in an effort to get on the ground!
Many times, other pilots assumed there must be something wrong with the heli. But, in a few months, taking off and landing became second nature... then I only had the shakes when trying to fly fast circuits and stuff. Now, I take off directly into a tic toc, and fly off inverted with total ease, because I'm use to it! But I still get shaky when flying at a big fun-fly, around really good pilots, or with my new Goblin! Im sure that will go away in time too. Cris

you should exercise before your flight. Get a little bit winded and your nerves will calm because you are dumping off adrenaline and stimulants to your nervous system. Try a jumping jacks or hopping in place or push ups. Get the heart rate up and you will be surprised how different you feel while flying. Your heart rate will already be elevated when you take off other than the take off elevating your heart rate or just the overall anticipation of it all.
