yep thats exactly what happend to me. i thought i was the only one it ever happend to cuzz i never heard of anyone talking about it other then myself. yep toss it and slap on the new one.

The new belt solved the problem for now. Here's a short video that shows what it was doing and the sound it made. Here are also a couple of pics, one of the stock red belt and the other of the Thunder Tiger gold colored replacement belt.

You can see a slight difference in design between the belts if you look between the teeth. The gold belt has a little dimple there where the red belt doesn't.

That's interesting - it looks like the belt is meshing too tightly on the tail gear, causing it to follow the teeth too long. Kind of like a bicycle or motorcycle sprocket that is cupped badly and the chain will not release.

It's not so much the noise as it is the friction and vibes it must cause when it hangs up like that. I was hoping it would actually grab and stop the gear in the video but it never did. There were several occasions at the field in the very early stages of spool up when the belt would stick hard enough to actually stop the head. When it did this, it would result in a severe tail twitch. I can only imagine the problems this cause a person with their tail behavior.

This is the exact belt I ordered a while ago. Glad I had a spare on hand.

Yeah. I inspected the auto rotation pulley and it appeared fine, just like the belt. I really couldn't see where the teeth on the belt were worn to a different shape either.

Anyway, hopefully I can get in a few flights after work today.

I have the same red belt on 2 of my machines but don't have the same noise.
please let us know what it was if you find the problem

Two flights today..........wrung it out, tight 3D, big air, autos. Belt was super smooth and quiet.

More than a gallon of fuel later and the gold belt is doing just fine.......still super smooth and quiet.

Also, I'm currently running with a modded pin for the tail pulley.

I've also upgraded the tail boom supports to the Quick UK variety. They are longer and stiffer than the ones from my Velocity.

My tail is getting a little/lot twitchy. What ball spacing are you using on your rudder servo? Also, do you think the sticking belt could cause the twitching tail. I've turned the gain down to where the tail just does not feel locked in.

Sorry for the late reply. My ball spacing is 13mm on the tail servo/ Torq 9188HV on 2S LiPo. I'm running Edge tail blades and a gain of 78 in Gyro Sense at 2150 HS. This gets me a good hold but I get a slight oscillation in fast inverted forward flight.

The sticking belt had to have caused vibes, even at high speed. Although I never saw my tail fin vibrating or anything else like that. The new belt is still going strong with no problems at all.

We'll see. I've got a belt on the way. I was hoping that it'd be here today, but it didn't make it. Oh well. It'll be here tomorrow, just in time for me to go to work!

New belt, no sticking. Makes me wonder, if in a crash, the belt stretches on one side more than the other. Mine was fine pre-crash. Post crash is when it started sticking. Maybe thats a flaw of the red belts? Never had this to happen to a Raptor 50v2....yellowish belt.

Also, maybe I flipped the belt around. If I ever have all of my helicopters up and running with no planes to work on, I'll put the red belt on and see if it still clicks by turning it iver. Found that tip on Raptor Techniques.
