Vbar gain going crazy
Well, the last night at IRCHA, I decided to fly my 550 when it was dusky dark. Needless to say, I lost orientation and dirtnapped it. Unfortunatelly this was Saturday night, so I wasn't able to fix it until today. I originally had the Align 520 blades. The hobby shop was out of those, so I threw some Edge 553 mm blades on it to fly. Today I tried to hover it. In normal mode (1900 headspeed) it seems to be fine, but when I spool it up in ID1 (2300 headspeed) the cyclic oscillates and the tail twitches back and forth. Is this due to the cyclic and tail gain being set too high? Will running larger blades make this big of a difference? Anyway, I'm running blue V-bar with pro software and using Vbar for the governor with hobbywing phase sensor. Thanks in advance.

First thing I would check is the vBar logs. Make sure there are no errors that are occuring. Swapping blades the gains should be at least close in a hover with limited effect, you would see some need to adjust based on a bigger and wider chord when you start loading up the rotorhead during actual flight. Guessing that you already went through the entire rebuild of the rotorhead and what dampers did you have before and may got replaced with another? Based on my past setups and similar you yours setup (mine was 2300rpm, edge 553mm, stock black dampers, non-dfc) my swash gain was 68 and tail gain were 71. Don't have much experience with vBar governor. I threw a set of blades (no name ones I had lying around) on one time and setup was uncontrollable, swapped them out with a set I knew to work and was like night and day. Does seem odd that this would happen to a set of edge mains.
I would probably check - vBar logs (excess vibration/errors) - Rotorhead for any bent/odd feelings when moved by hand - ..... - ..... - And the list may grow. Wynn

I ran the logs and I get a whole slew of "governor input contains glitches" and vibration level raised message (probably when I flipped it to ID1). After the crash, I put a brand new main shaft, feathering shaft, main gear and brand new one way bearing (I had a 2 way bearing for some reason after I crashed). I did not, however, replace the dampers in the head or any of the bearings. I just noticed that the helicopters oscillations and tag wags just got nuts when I raised the headspeed up.

Something else, one of the DSMX satellites is blinking, while the other one is solid. I tried switching ports between rx 1 and rx 2 and it doesn't seem to change anything. The one satellite will be solid regardless which port it's plugged into and the other one just blinks.

The glitching of the sensor does raise some concern. If its not holding headspeed and over/undershooting enough it can induce a tail can wag (most often tied to helicopter vibration and 550e has its share). Not sure if the error is/can do that but something to look into. Have you tried to hook the vbar up to a PC pull the blades and see what it shows on the setup? Do you recall what dampers you were running, I assume you were running these before at the same hs with no issue? Wynn

I plugged just the sat into my Goblin and sure enough the sat is bad. As fsr as the dampers they are the same ones I had before. Im gonna take off the blades and spool up the bird to see what happens. Then I'm gonna try switching back to castle esc if the governor isn't holding rpm. I may have a bad phase sensor.

I am thinking that your bad sat RX is the root cause. |

Not yet. I ordered a new phase sensor from Helidirect and a I mailed back in the satellite from Spektrum for repairs. I am just going to replace the phase sensor and the satellite and see what happens.

Well, replaced the phase sensor and tried hovering with one DSMX sat. Works fine, no errors. I'm thinking that the satellite was the root cause after all. Glad it's fixed, at least.
