The gov is enabled by default (the YGE comes in heli mode) you only need the card to setup gov store. If your batteries are all the same there will be negligible (if its like jazz/jive mode 4 then it will be ~1-3%) difference in headspeed between packs.

The default settings work just fine with the kit motor.

So it happened. The wife wanted her present early, so I got mine early too!! Just opened the box to see what's inside. And what did I find, you ask?

A B-E-A-utifully packed Mini Protos! I think I'll be going through the parts bags after dinner.

A couple quick observations; I see what people are talking about with the canopy grommets. It looks and feels like someone sliced a black eraser and drilled a hole in them. But whatever, they aren't why I purchased the kit. I think I'll be moving the canopy posts forward and replacing the grommets.

Secondly, the frames sure are securely captured in their molded slots. And they get mighty thin underneath the servo cutouts. If I'd been a tad less observant, I might of snapped them excitedly trying to remove them. Even my son noticed the potential problem as I gingerly pried them free. Has anyone reported breaking them upon removal?

All in all, I'm very excited if you can't tell.

You do need to be a bit ginger getting them out, my biggest issue with them was that only ONE of them has the holes for the motor idler pulley so make sour you put that one on the correct side (I didnt the first time), personally I would have drilled the holes in both pieces as they are otherwise identical.

I just got my Kit today too, beautiful is right! My 450 Pro feels clunky in comparison.

Check your swash for slop, Mine is the old version and very sloppy, hopefully ExperienceRC will swap it out for me with no trouble, they should, because I ordered the Mini and they sent the 500, had to wait another week to get the Mini, and the 500 they sent looks like its been passed around a few times....

Should have waited for Pete at ElektroRC to get them in.

The only complaint I have had while putting it together is trying to snug the stock ESC in. Very little space.

There was a little bit of sanding involved around the tail from memory, and 2 links needed a bit of resizing (the tool does not come with the new kit) but apart from that.... beautiful. I have to wait till I get back from my christmas vacation to fly it, unfortunately

It's good to see another new Protos Mini flyer in Phoenix. Just received my kit, and am 3/4's through the build. The manual is written fairly well, but there's a few things I would add.

It's much easier to pull the belt through the tail BEFORE you bolt it to the frame. Use a string to pull the belt through. And while the manual eludes this this, be sure and use the spindle that is 1mm longer for the FBL version along with the slightly wider spacers. When your done the main grip arm ball will have perfect geometry aligning right down the center of the head.

Have fun, since this an enjoyable build.

The Mini Protos is one serious bit of engineering,I dont think it is for the first time builder, due to the design, but O it goes together so well.

With regard to flying it is supperb, and can be set up to suit, any style of flying.

Spares and the way they are packaged are well thought out.

Ive just taken my Beast off and fitted a Mini V-bar,so still playing with settings.

For me as an old guy this is bliss,im not a 3D person but loops, rolls and fast flight all together and continuous pirouettes and this does it in grace.

For next year all i will do is try some different batteries and abuse my Mini.

Marty.

Thanks for the tips guys! Quick question for all you BeastX guys, could I build it using a rx to center servos and what not without the beastX? I don't have one yet, but I'd like to start the build anyway, and add the unit later.

No, you cannot use ANY subtrim with a FBL unit, it will either see it as input or zero it out at the next init. It also wont adjust the individual servos (remember the beastx is doing the CCPM). You need to centre servos using the beastx (there is a step in the setup for this).

You can start building and get quite a bit done and still leave the frame halves unjoined, but I'd wait 'til you got the Beast.

Yes, you can plug your servos to the rx and get the servos to their center/neutral positions. Then put your servo arms on as close to 90 degree as possible and "mark" them down. However, as desertstalker said, don't use subtrim to center the arms. Do that with the beastx.

This is what I meant. Can anyone who said "no" confirm that this will work, and not require redoing or taking things back apart?

This was the only other build guide I could find on the internet apart from Finless's 'big' Protos build (which also helped a lot by the way).

I myself thought of using a spare receiver to do the servo 90'ing - in fact that's what I initally did, and screwed in the servo arms, ball links etc.

But to get the final 90, because I had no idea how difficult it would be to eyeball the final adjustments with the servos in the cage, first build you understand, I built the cage with the servos connected to my mini V-bar.

In the end, it looks like the final subtrimming by receiver if you are flybarred or if you are FBL - with the unit, can be done with the entire heli frame built up around it.

In fact, I think I may have enough clearance to change servo arms if it ever came up to it. Some one with experience in doing this could say yay or nay to this.

Enjoyed building this so much that I'm really wanting to get a stretched and/or a flybarred one.

I haven't tried on the mini but with the 500 you can pull the servo's and mounts out together fairly easily after removing the mainshaft and links.

Thanks guys! That's good news! I'll start the build today if I can find the time.

Egroeg, that's exactly what mine said. Then I told her I had her present, and she couldn't wait. Compromise, compromise

Edit: lol... I just realized you were quoting me. Ha! Good times.
