Default Trex 150....The 100 Flight Report.

I now have over 100 flights on 2 Trex 150's. I bought them from my local hobbyshop last week.
I have 3 crashes so far. None were my fault. Mechanical stuff on the little beast. Here is what I know.

1.Aluminum Main Shaft seems to bend easily. Be ready to either straighten it or replace.
2.Landing gear always breaks the rear tab that holds it into the frame...seems fragile. Can be fixed after breaking with a 2 mm carbon rod and superglue and drilling.
3.Blades seem to crack or completely break the ends off easily upon impact.
4.Servo wires are very close to spinning motor. Will cut the servo wires easily. Hard to solder tiny wires but can be done
5.Tail motor housing tends to crack without even crashing. Be ready with to superglue the motor in the housing when it cracks or the tail motor will come OUT WHILE FLYING....Not fun. New housing comes with tail boom crash kit but no way to thread wire through the boom with the connector on the end....
I have had all the above happen to me several times.

Overall to me it is much more fragile than the Blade MCPX BL.
BUT it flys so much better!!!!!!! The tail hold is awesome and the flybarless board makes it fly like a larger heli. The flybarless controler is fantastic.
My only complaint is the flip rate is slower than the MCPX BL. But I can live with that. My BL can be flipped in a 18" Box....

Would I buy this heli again.....Hell Yes!!!
Would I recommend it to you....I don't know. You decide.
All I know is I'm having fun with it regardless of my issues.

Cheers

Sounds fun...I think we have a great mcpx upgrade.kit..upgrade to 150 board and add bl motors...best of both.

BL flips faster???? Not in my experience AT ALL!

I think you need to turn your cyclic dial and dual rates up on the 150, mine flips 3x faster than any BL I have ever flown.

I agree, once I turned up the cyclic flip rate this thing is insane! It can flip much faster than my BL ever did.

Dylan, My BL will flip in an 18" Box. Your Trex 150 will flip 3 times faster???
That's a 6 INCH BOX. Wow.
We need to have a flip contest.

Collective management.
Lol just kidding. I'm still working on that as well with my big helis.

A flip to inverted, or a flip all the way around back upright?

Continuous flips starting at 25 seconds [ame]http://youtu.be/GUmZ8BSEVTA[/ame] This is with dual rates at 125 and travel adjust at 100, it gets much faster if you increase the travel adjust. Flip rate pot is maxed out, or almost maxed out.

Be kind to me, that was my first flight of the day, still a little groggy

Ill try and get back to back videos today of both helis flipping at their max rates

I don't know if it's just a perception thing on video, but it sure looks and sounds more powerful than my BL. I can't wait to give her a go.

It is more powerful than a stock BL by a big margin, but also heavier.

Put the same main motor in the BL and you see the power to weight difference [ame]http://youtu.be/jMeaY-PYr6s[/ame]

Default Mcpx vs 150

I've been considering a 150 but if that's what I can do to my Mcpx, I may skip the whole 150 thing. Or maybe I do need another heli

I found the roll rate incredible. My BL back flip rate cant touch this heli. Why my back flips are slower on the BL I no not, but ..... just turn the roll rate pot up a bit and add some expo if needed and hang on for the ride

I believe the t-rex 150 isn't built to be unbreakable, but built for straight out performance. I'ts like the bigger heli's.. You crash it, you break it. You don't crash it, it keeps going.
I do believe aswell that the 150 has some more power then an mcpx BL. Maybe its that extra amount of power that makes it less crash-proof then an Mcpx-bl.

Both will have it's up and downsides i guess.

Yeah. I feel like if it flies like a bigger heli, i wont crash it as much. Most of my mcpx crashes are a result of the heli doing something unexpected, and i either crash wondering what the heck is going on, or i try to save it and bog the motor and blow the tail out, complicating things even more, still resulting in a crash.

I do have the occasional dumb thumb like anyone, but its like a 2/8 ratio. 2 dumb thumb crashes to every 8 "What the frick is this thing doing? Where is it going?" crashes. Its not because I'm taking risks I wouldn't normally take. I'm sick of repairing my mcpx since it breaks on almost every crash anyway, so I fly it more carefully like my big helis, and yet still crash it more. Actually i fly it more carefully because i know its more prone to flying out of control the more i jam the sticks around. My only explanation is because it doesn't fly the same. Its less predictable and needs to be babied.

The reports of the 150 flying more like a real heli is making me very happy. If it really does, I foresee fewer crashes in my future. And if I do crash and break it, it'll still be cheaper to fix than any of my other helis, including my mcpx BL.

I haven't read of anyone stripping the servos in a crash yet, so that seems promising. That'll keep the repairs simple.

Anyone strip one yet?

50 flights in and would agree with everything in the nicely written report. Only addition is the Swash comes apart as well. We need the likes of Lynx & MH & Dylan to crank out replacement real parts fast!...
