Variants of Trex 500: What are the differences?
I'm looking to buy a Trex 500 size heli (FBL/DFC). There are some out there for sale, but there are so many different variants (ESP, Pro, V2, L, etc.), by brain is starting to hurt trying to figure out the differences.
Does anyone have the Reader's Digest version or a good link to go learn? |

I know how you feel. I have purchased a 500L and now would like to by some upgrades and a new canopy. Fusuno tells me that they don't make a canopy for the 500L, but I'm willing to bet that some of the other Fusuno canopies intended for other Trex 500 helis will fit.
Some body out there must know......please?

the 500L uses the same canopies that the DFC or the EL use
here's my 500L with the DFC Canopy teh original canopy and a CANOMOD 500E Canopy (I covered the 2 legs of the E to make it an L ) http://www.helidirect.com/canomod-ag...ro-p-33950.hdx Please note that even with the original 500L canopy the canopy does not fit well and you need to cut the 2 front canopy posts as shown, otherwise you'll be cracking them all the time do this Also the canopy holding on the Trex 500 sucks..the pnly way I have ever managed to get them well secured is using these metal grommets sold at Helidirect, they are from Fusuno http://www.helidirect.com/fusuno-sil...rs-p-28184.hdx see bellow Kind Regards Alex |

Simply called 500...then they updated the model with an aluminium head and aluminium blade grips and started calling them V2 etc... These were all helis with FL heads (follower arms) Then came the DFC in 2012 or so, and they started the flybarless deal with the 500...slowly the flybarred version was phased out Nowadays you can only get the 500E, which still has a flybar and plastic grips http://www.amain.com/align-t-rex-500...blades/p201804 The DFC, which was their first flubarless 500, which had a pure DFC head (no follower arms) http://www.amain.com/align-t-rex-500...blades/p239984 and a few months, they took the DFC, gave it a wider frame, put on a FL head and this is now the new heli in the fleet of 500's the 500L http://www.amain.com/align-t-rex-500...blades/p403242 The DFC will soon be phased out...slowly they will discontinue it Here is a DFC and a 500L BTW....here is a good read on the differences between the 500DFC and the new 500L https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=675188 Kind regards Alex |

This really needs to be a sticky. 500 Variants guide. Maybe Code3Medic can edit the first post to update it with the 500L info... (hint, hint)

The ESP was a very early model of the Trex 500 ESP stood for electric super pro
It was a flybar heli http://www.rcmart.com/blog/2009/07/a...ded-at-rcmart/ As for the name PRO, they started using it, on pretty much all helis they made...I guess they thought it would help sell if they had words like Pro, etc.. As for the Pro shown in the pictures, that's just what the canopy says... I use the Trex 500 as by beater and as a consequence crash it 2 or 3 times a week,...so I went over many canopies..the one you see there is exactly the same heli, the DFC, with a canopy that says PRO Ignore the word pro, and the letters in my canopies...they are just caopies..the helis in the photos under the canopies are a DFC, You can see by the DFC head, with no Follower arms, and the 500L that has follower arms, but can also have a DFC head if I chose so.. The 500 L has a wider frame and is the latests version Kind regards Alex |

ESP
The first ESP was all metal head Flybar, then they came out with ESP FBL which had the follower arm flybarless setup. THEN came the PRO FBL (follower arm), THEN the PRO DFC.

What about my old school Trex 500? Come on! This thing flies like a dream. Yes. That's something called a "Flybar" for those who never flew one. haha btw, my kit is now under $400. It's the Trex 500e flybar kit. Super Combo. Great kit at a great price. I to will probably switch to Dominator 500L, but for now...keeping it old skool.

I don't know. I didn't really measure..I cut two, worked fine so I cut all 10 of them in my spares box. on the 500L, the rear ones now are longer and different. They actually enter inside the plastic insert in the frame...an improvement This is how much I cut 4mm maybe? |

The very first 500's were called the 500CF or 500GF.....only difference was one had CF sides the other had GF sides (or what we call fiber glass)....
although mine now has a DFC head and spartan......it is an original 500GF that I got back when they came out....still has the GF sides |
