just tx info settings for 3d flying
Sorry if this is in the wrong thread but thought since my bird is the 500esp I might try here...Ok I'm getting pretty good at flying now want to start 3d flips for one I've done the phoenix sim so have that down how to do them, but I have no one to show me the settings I should have on my tx to start out with and if mine aren't the right ones i'll change it and practice and get used to the new settings and try flips .... anyway the bird is a 500esp fbl I have 13 pitch up and down... and my tx setting is 65d/r expo 40 for the cyclic and pitch curve is 35 40 50 75 100 been used to this settings and like it and was wondering if this is good enough to start doing flips... I would ask someone in my town but no one fly's 3d..... so thought I would just ask what is a good setting to start out with if my pitch curve is ok or not...On the sim it's great but we all know the sim not just the same as real life flying....I'm more concerned about the pitch curve setting than anything and would like input if I should lower my - pitch more than I have it already..... I hope I wrote this for you to understand what I mean I'm not a writer and sometimes I don't even know what I mean after reading sometime so sorry in advance....

Typically people start doing 3d flips with linear pitch curves (0 25 50 75 100). This way the positive and negative pitch is symmetrical about the center. Why don't you give this setting a try in the simulator first and see how comfortable you are. To try in real life I would recommend you be 3mistakes high and try a full flip (upright to inverted to upright again). Please practice this on the sim first many times so that you know what to expect. Be safe. |

Good advice.
I have 2 ESP's and an HC500. All three flight modes in my Tx are the same. Linear pitch curves, governed head speed... If your going to be doing flips now, it would be wise to start by getting used to a linear pitch curve. I'd also suggest making sure your throttle curve in idle up 1 ( or 2 ) is either a flat curve or governed. ( Some people use a "V" curve like 100, 90, 85, 90, 100) Is your normal flight mode set up with a throttle curve thats linear? I ask because sometimes newer people will set up their beginners "normal" flight mode with a linear throttle curve, and you do NOT want this to start flipping your heli. Get used to switching to idle up 1 or idle up 2 ( if your not already ). That would be a good starting point. Thats what I did. Got used to flying in idle up, with linear pitch curves, and a flat head speed. Later I went governed. In Idle up, you would have linear pitch curves, and either flat, "V" or governed head speed, to keep the head stable. When your doing flips, if the head is changing speeds dramatically, it will affect the way the heli flips.

For that V-curve, I think you mean 100-90-85-90-100. You generally want more throttle at the limits of your collective, not less.

thanks for them tip guys I changed my pitch curve like you guys said might have to do the sim a little longer they seem to be harder to do now seems I have to move the stick not as much to do a flip with that linier curve.... and I do a flat curve for throttle all already I seem to fly better that way anyway.... but the v curve I have not tried that out yet I'll have to change to that and see how I like it do you guys use the v curve method? for just a flat curve for throttle for flip or any 3d flying for that matter...

It depends on your setup, and how hard you are flying. If you're using a flat throttle curve, and don't notice any bogging in hard maneuvers, then leave it alone. If you do start to notice some bogging, then a V-curve can help. I used to run a flat throttle curve, but have been using governors for the last year and a half.
