X50F tail control rod broke in flight

They had the same problem with the raptors years ago and worked out that they were putting the guide too close to the join in the control rod! You also need to space the guides at uneven interval's so each unsupported section has different resonance!

That is a very astute observation. I can imagine that scenario completely. Otherwise, I don't expect there is enough stress to overload the bend.

I could still imagine making the control rod of a higher fatigue strength tempered wire.

As I understand it the reason they put the servo up front is to keep it from getting bombarded with nitro exhaust.

On my new build, I added heat shrink tubing to the bend area, a couple of layers. I also set my rod guide closest to the coupler a ways back away from it.

Moved my servo to the tail using a Align 600 tail servo holder.
Haven't flown it yet but it seems very smooth:

I am sure it will work fine there...just need to keep it clean. They placed it on the boom in the case of the Titan 50SE, and I never really saw anything of folks having problems with it. But it's a nice simple solution that eliminates the failure mode.

make sure you double check your CG. My x50 was tail heavy, and that was with the servo up front.

I second the check CG. FBL systems work best with a properly CG machine. My X50 was also a little heavy on the tail side. I had to slide my RX pack just about all the way forward on the front mount. My tail servo is in the stock location also.

Just got it running after replacing the engine with an O.S. 55HZ. I love this motor!
