Default walkera v400do2 normal mode flying

I know that the devo 7 and v400 are supposedly set up from factory to just fly normal flight mode. I have been practicing for quite a few months now and thought maybe this summer getting it out and just practice hovering and flying basically like a 4 ch for now just to get the feel of it. Is it that easy on the v400 to do basic flying for now. I do have some very experienced heli pilots I met at a field and for sure going to hook up with them and let them teach me some things. Just wanted to hear from some experienced v400 guys that could give me some input thank you.

The V400 is a great sport flyer, it's just not intended for much 3D; Apart from inverted and sloppy tic tocks.

It wouldn't be too bad a Bird if it didn't use the brushed main and tail.

Do you have any prior experience flying or have you jumped straight in with this?

You mention you've been practicing for a few Months, but you haven't mentioned what you practiced with.

Default sorry

Sorry about that Im sure more info would help. I have been flying the tar out of the msr and the nano qx. Orientation and stick control has really come around since I have been working on them. I know I am not ready for 3d flight at all at this time. I want to start as a project upgrading to metal gear servos for sure and later brushless motors. Right now my goal would be hovering and just getting used to this heli. I know it is gonna take quite awhile before I even consider 3d. I am going to get sim this summer. Just looking for some advice on this thing so I can start figuring it out. Thank you for your response.

The V400D02 is a very nice flying and well-behaved heli, and I think a reasonable transition from the mSR, if you've pretty much mastered the mSR, but keep in mind:

This is a much bigger heli.. if it tips over on spool up, take-off, or landing, you will need to buy parts and do repairs. It it hits you or anything breakable, it will do damage. You will need a lot more space to fly in than the mSR. Take it slow... take your time learning the feel of it. It's also really nice to have a heli that you can see, and doesn't look so much like a kid's toy.

All that said, I have really enjoyed flying this heli. I have not tried inverted hover, but flips and loops are done easily, and it behaves well in Idle-Up / Stunt Mode.

But yeah, it's not great for hard maneuvers due to having a tail motor, and being slightly underpowered. ...and the main motor does wear out after a while, but is not too hard to replace.

It's pretty stable for netar a 450, but be warned, when it goes in, there's about an 80% probability that it's going to be a rekit, and this is over grass on a field, etc'..

It can be strengthened somewhat by doubling up the upper frame and fitting the tail boom support and Coco lower frame, but the best modification from the get go is to fit a BL main and tail.

The stock motors failed on me without warning and they can last from as little a a few flights >.

I don't mind doing the walk of shame if I've dumb thumbed, but it's a bit of an embarrassment when it's not my fault.

I've been flying my v400 for just over a year now. Check out John Salt's site, rchelicopterfun.com if you haven't already. Mine came all set up from the factory, but being new (and clearing out the settings on accident) I came across his setup ebook and learned a lot about setting it up as a good trainer to really build my hover skills. It paid off!

I'm still a newbie, but the advice I can give is for sure put some MG servos on and go brushless ASAP. I'm running the exi d213f servos and the main brushless from rtf-heli. Went through too many brushed mains and just not worth the chance of dropping the bird out of the sky mid flight. As far as taming it down for normal flight during hover training you could do 70% throttle at high stick and a +3 at low, +5 mid, and +7 high on your pitch. Don't use these for anything other than hover training as you'll want some negative pitch at low to bring it down in forward flight. Just what I've learned so far. Been working on my skills on my nano cpx over the winter, so I too am ready for the warm weather to return. Happy flying!!
